So it looks like a bunch of people are doing rides on 10/6-10/7 and 10/20-10/21. Looks like these weekends are out for the NorCal BF ride for October. So the other weekends are 10/13-10/14 or 10/27-10/28. End of the month may be out, if some have family commitments for halloween, so how does 10/13 or 10/14 for the October ride sound?

Hey Ron, I'm still planning on heading up the Mt. Tam Oct. 27th ride, I'm back from the dead. I've been sick since just after Tour De Max. Found out I having a reaction to something in my envirorment. I've had a fever and a host of other symtoms. So I'm on anti-allergy medications, and finally got back on my bike this week, so I should be ok by Oct. I had planned on inviting everyone for a weekend day in the park but, being sick and time have kind of blown that out of the water... Anyway I'm up for the next BF ride, can't do the HMB ride I'm too punked for that right now.

I could do Sunday, the 14th. Saturdays are out until after Thanksgiving (I've been roped into being a soccer coach for one of my kids' teams - pretty sad since I played football and swam in high school).

Glad to see you are doing better Taxi777. Oct 27 up Mt Tam sounds like a great ride. People should be recovered from their previous century rides by then.

Hahaha, AYSO, All Your Saturdays Occupied.
I was persuaded to coach one year... it was fun but I'm no soccer coach.
10/27 sounds OK for me. Will have to confirm on the family calendar.

Not necessarily. You have a full year after to work on some mediocrity. 14 yrs of experience has taught me that.;)

Nothing short of a great day with views. Just pace yourself. A long switchback climb, and a drop of around 400ft to alpine dam and a pretty tough climb up the backside, then seven quick climbs over looking Stinson and the Pacific and roll to the summit.
looking forward to seeing everyone.

Wow, what a reaction! Amazing to see such a large response. I'm game for a ride on 10/27 in Mt. Tam. I've never done that ride.
If anyone is interested, I was thinking of doing Calaveras on 10/13, over to Palomares.

Yes sir! ;)
Actually I am feeling so much better today. It's amazing to think that just 3 days (and 2 countries) ago I was limping around Paris choking down French aspirin (and I HATE taking drugs), barely able to walk up and down a step. Moving around seems to have helped, it felt best after walks and worst after being still in one position for a long time. Now I can walk up and down 5 flights of stairs in my hotel. Hopefully it will hold up to the long flight home. I don't think I'll push it by trying to find a Swiss rental bike though....
After I get home I am planning on scheduling a proper bike fitting before shopping for my road bike. Maybe I should also consider a folding bike for all of these trips! :D

If that was you, I spoke with you briefly at the Hillsdale station. Cool bike.

No, I don't have a Bike Friday for a variety of reasons. I have a Brompton clone called Merc. The folded size on those things are amazing, aren't they?
Ooops danger of thread hijack here :o

No, I have the cheaper step-cousin (http://www.xootr.com/xootr/swift/bikes.shtml). I have totally modified (http://www.bikeforums.net/showpost.php?p=4654201&postcount=115) it, though. The only thing stock is the frame and fork.
Back on topic... where is there an elevation gain/routeslip for the proposed ride?
Thanks.

Ok, so for the Calaveras ride, it basically is going up Calaveras (not Felton or Sierra), Palomares, then cut through Fremont, for another hill climb on Paseo Padre, then back to Milpitas. The whole loop is about 60 miles, and ~ 4100 feet climbing. For those wanting a shorter route, you can always make a u-turn at Sunol, then back track your way. That would still make it a 40 miler.

ok, I'm in. The last BF ride was def. a lot of fun. Been itching to ride with some of you again. I'll probably have to add another 20 miles or so coming from San Jose downtown. Anyone else going to ride there from San Jose?

or just skip the Foothill/Palomares part and just head west on 84/Niles Canyon back to Milpitas for a 40 miler. I might ride to the start from Fremont if I get a go the night befor the ride. So I geuss I'm a maybe.
kster, we can prolly hook up and tag team to the start. I'm about a block from REI/Home Depot in South Fremont.

thought.

I'm still debating if I'm going to ride to the start or not. I'm having thoughts of being lazy and meeting the group in Sunol and just doing the Palomeras/Fremont section. :) BTW, I'm close to Lake Elizabeth.

the only thing I don't like about this is a fairly long stretch on Hwy 84 into Fremont. There is not much shoulder room there, and you have cars that wizz by pretty fast speeds. It is doable, but I wouldn't want to lead a group on that stretch. Too dangerous, especially if leading a group where you don't know their riding handling skills, and comfort level riding in traffic.
