It's only fair that I follow my original post with an update and reality check.

The day after my "wheel sucker" adventure, I rode a casual 20 mile ride after work. No problems. Two days after (as tends to be my recovery style) my legs were killing me. I set off for a 40 mile ride on rolling back roads, only to find that after the first 15 miles, my legs cramped up about every 8 to 10 minutes. It was a long ride home, and I wasn't feeling so smug about the events in my post "I didn't throw down the gauntlet, he did". I pretty sure he recovered much quicker and more fully than I have. :o
