I just got a sweet Nishiki International with Suntour Cyclone derailers and a color matched milled seatpost, I was worried a bit at first that the fully chromed fork may be tweaked because it was stearing to one side but after further inspection I discovered that the rear wheel was not centered in the dropouts... Go figure, the only other problem aside from the dried out and cracked gum hoods is that the tires are totaly gone, the sidewalls are cracked and crumbled all around, I had an old mountain bike with similarly cracked sidewalls and because it was only a beater rode it till the sidewall seperated from the bead.. I'm not going to try my luck on this nice road bike for sure. After it's cleaned up with new tires I'll take some photos.

it has on it now crumbling Specialized Commuter II 27"X1"1/8 tires, I've got a Miyata fitted with IRC Road Winner Duro IIs of the same size but they are noticeably wider Than the old dry rotted 27"X1"1/8s on the Nishiki.. I have a pair of Panaracer Pasela 27"X1"1/8s but I don't like the tread on them, I'd like something more like a slick like the IRCs (which have the "holographic tread" that really doesn't do anything) but narrower but not super skinny like a straight 1" which are hard to find anyway... Also cheap would be nice, around or under thirty bucks for the pair. Also I couldn't find the IRC for sale at Nashbar, did they stop carrying them or are they disconinued? I really like them and I think I got my last pair for under ten bucks. I've got a lot of 27" bikes and there's no need to swap to 700c as long as I can still get decent tires, what are good sources? so far I've looked on biketoolsetc.com, Harris Cyclery and Nashbar which doesn't seem to have a single 27" tire..

Thanks,

Nashbar has the Panaracer Pasela (http://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?category=6000121&subcategory=60001258&brand=&sku=4286&storetype=&estoreid=&pagename=Shop%20by%20Subcat%3A%2027%22) in 27"

I have a pair of these Forté GT2 Road Tires from Performance in the 27x1" size:

They are functional and cheap if rather plain in appearance. They do run narrow - my 1" actually measures 22mm so I would not be surprised if the 1 1/8 measure 25mm or so.

I have some of the Nashbar 27x1 1/4 tires but they actually measure 27x1 1/8. The tread is slick with some small grooves about 1cm apart. They used to come in skinwall, but now they are black. Mine were made by Cheng Shin.

I actually read your entire post, so I won't suggest Panaracer Paselas, but I would have if I hadn't.

I bought some Bontrager Sport(s) at my LBS. Nice light sidewall, and the logo isn't too obnoxious. They ride nice enough, and handling is even pretty good.,,,,BD

Thanks for the suggestions, I also forgot the other thing is all the cactus spines that hide about to poke holes in tubes... that's prolly why I subconsciously don't like the Paselas Vs. The IRC Duro, they are very lightweight and thin in the tread, even then I'm running thornproof tubes as I got a spine through my sidewall in the IRC's once somehow where they are not as substantial... Luckily it was a very slow leak

Thorn proof tubes and slime might help?,,,,BD

Harris Cyclery is closing out the Avocet tires at 11.95...I would buy five or six.

Says they are 27 x 7/8". I wonder how tough they are to mount up. The 1" tires can really give me fits getting them on.
