"The 33"-Road Bike Racing - how to carry a spare tire?

I am racing on my Tubulars on Sunday. 110 miles, 11,000 feet of climbing.I have a spare tubular tire, but I'm not sure the best way to bring it. I have an old seat bag that is big enough, should I take that or just put it in my jersey or attach it with an elastic band to the seatpost?
Also, should I carry co2 or a can of inflate repair or both?

Is there wheel support?

There will be support, but given that it's so long, it could be a while before they get to me. I will also have a set
of clinchers in the support car.

Get one of those bags that Thompson seatposts come in. Put your tire in that and carry it in your jersey. This works for a teammate of mine.

I fold mine in 1/6s and attached with a tire holder. Toe strap works well too.

Tubular holder (made by Vittoria and Zeus), attaches to your seat rails.

use a toe strap to the seat rails. that was the standard way back in the 80s when some people were still training on sewups. make sure it's prestretched and has some glue on it

the figure eight only works with wool jerseys and bike that have a four speed cluster or less

I carry my spare tire securely around my waist. It gets especially big after a weekend of beer and poker. Oh wait...you're actually talking about tyres. Nevermind then. Carry on.

I'm not sure I would bother with it if there was wheel support but that is a long race though and you can change tubulars pretty fast so YMMV.

I've done it and it's not particularly uncomfortable. Although I've only done it for maybe 20-30 miles.

Chipcom carries his just above his hips. You can see it bulging through the lycra.

I would have, but it would be uncomfortable for 5+ hours. I will have snacks and Gu in my pockets.
I like the way it is attatched to the bike with the toe straap and velcro, I can also put some co2 in the sock.

I say this with all due respect, that is about the butt-uglyiest thing I have seen in a long time. If anybody's on the fence regarding clincher/tube and that doesn't give them an answer, well, I just don't know what would.

There are also nice leather bags to go around the tire, i should get one but the spare is a crappy tire and I don't worry about UV damage.

That's how I've always done it. As stated before, make sure there's a base layer of glue, and go easy in the corners if you're on a spare.

Toe Straps, Bungee Cords. Really, we can do better than that! The question here on BF should be "what i$ the most expen$ive way to carry a $pare tire"? :lol:

If you have 2 bottle cages and use 1 bottle, you can carry your tubular in the empty one secured with a rubber band.
