I bought the Canon Powershot A70. Really popular. I had a hard time finding it and ended up getting it ordered. Great little camera and I can't wait to get it.

Those of you that take cameras on the trail.. how do you pack it with you and what do you do to make sure that when you bite it you don't bust the camera. I'd love to take the camera with me but after spending like 400+ bones on camera and accesories its kinda scary to think about bombin down a trail with that strapped to my back.

If you don't mind the bulk, get a pelican case. They come with lots of padding and it's completly waterproof, I have seen them completly submerged in water and the camera has been fine. I use mine for everything, paddling, biking and just general storage.

Wow! I thought I was the only one who couldn't get the hold of A70. I went to the store 2 days ago, but with no cash, just to find out if they had them. Turned out they did, but were closing in 1 hour. It takes me 40 min. to get back to my house, so I decided to go the next day. I was at the store 10 minutes before the opening, and to my surprise 6 cameras that were left in stock yesterday were sold out in the last hour. How's that for some luck?

Hey Soc, need more details. I too, (thank's to your input) have decided on the A70. Where did you end up getting one? I'm going through the whole "Support your local store vs buying online" thing at the moment. Did you find it cheaper than $270 at the site listed last week. Locally the cheapest I can find is $299 plus 7%. The big issue I have is the manager at the store is also a cyclist. I'd hate to show up for a ride and take some pics and hear the old, "hey wasn't that the camera you asked me about?" and then explain to him that I used him for his input only to save a couple of bucks.

IOW, I hate it when the same thing happens to me with bike parts, and I really really really HATE being a hypocrit.

I'll probably buy locally unless there is substantial savings online.

L8R & Congrats. Post some pics soon!

I bought locally... I got it for 300 bucks, i also got a 50 dollar warrenty that gives me 5 years after the one year i already get with canon... so i got 6 years warrenty. I bought a 128mb flash card for 40 bucks from Circuit City.. I was going to buy the camera from circuit city but i'd have to wait like two weeks for it to come in so i got the camera from Shutterbug. They have like 12 stores, the guy called ALL of them, and they were all out. So he ordered it and i'll get it this week.

The way I see it is you saw it for 270, add say 15 bucks for shipping and your at 285, you're only really saving 15 bucks... But then again, i live in oregon and I don't pay tax. I also think its easier to just take it to the local shop and let them take care of it when i have problems than to deal with canon directly.

I played with the camera a bunch at the store... the girl had to stay and watch me the whole time (i guess so i don't steel it) and htere were other customers waiting but she couldn't help them cause she had to wait for me to finish... haha :p :D I think she was annoyed  Im excited to get it, i'll post pics soon
