ok, I hate the term "Bling" but its the only term that fits other
than eye candy, if you can think of another let me know, I'll change the title.

So anyhow I'm cruising ebay looking for another catch of the day $10 masi kind
of deal, and ran my usual search for "C record" and came up with this.
No, it's not cheap, but damn. . . . .

For when a 50th Anniversary gruppo just isn't good enough...

That sure is pretty, but I fear it will never see a kilometer of use.

The real question is: what's the grease-nipple looking thing on the seatpost?

Am I the only one who thinks the above bike is just awful looking? Yuk, I "wouldn't be caught dead" riding it.

I would agree with that.

Like a drug dealer's ideal of a bike. Kind of against the grain of bike culture.

You have to look at these in another light. In the brass instrument world, there's a trend toward gold-plating for some mythical weight and resonance enhancement--although it's arguably poorly-defined and mostly-unsupported by science. As a trombonist, I find a gold-plated mouthpiece has a certain feel against the lips that is pleasant, and the look is a plus as well. If you look at this as simply a design choice, it's not so bad. It's the popular culture that links gold=gangster that makes this stuff ugly. Notice it's not covered in a lot of "ice" and other crap, just a bit too much gold plating. A little less plating, a tasteful choice of plated components, and this would be astoundingly beautiful. But then, it'd look a lot more like the 50th anniversary Record, wouldn't it?

The real question is: what's the grease-nipple looking thing on the seatpost?Internal seat post expander (like a stem -- no seat post bolt on the frame).

The phrase "tres gauche' comes to mind. But whatever. A few gold bits would be cool but that's waaaay over teh top. But I sure like the deraileurs.

C Record doesn't do anything for me. I got free groups for 2 years back when I was on a sponsored team. I thought the stuff sucked and had no character. I much prefer Super Record. I was amazed at how much my old beat up C Record sold for on Ebay

You build a glass case for it and keep it on your desk.

Ride it?

For the price of that one derailleur I could have an endless supply of Suntour Cyclones...

OK - I'd have it!

I don't think the bike is represented well in the photographs - they seem a bit washed out.

I do think the Olmo is more attractive though.

That bike is drop dead beautiful. I can just see it now in dark green with matching bar tape and Brooks saddle.
