I just bought a surly cross-check from Jensonusa
this is my first bike in 5 years.. I bought it as a commuter around the city, to get to work and to keep me in shape.

I more commuter friendly tires. do you recommend me buying a second set of wheels or just replacing the tires?
I'm guessing i'd probably want fenders as I dont' want water, or mudd on me when i get into work. Do you recommend any fenders, or are they all the same?

Do you recommend any tires in particular.

If you're planning on only using it for commuting, one wheelset is fine.

As for tires, are you looking for speed, comfort, puncture resistance, able to handle non-pavement trails, etc...

I use Continental Ultra Gatorskins (700x23c) for commuting since i'm on the road and need to minimize flats.

You'll want to go with a little bigger tire with a Crosscheck(a bit heavy plus whatever you are
carrying), the Panaracer Pasela TG are a great tire. I use 700x32C.

Also, the Planet Bike Freddy Fenders work nice on a Crosscheck. It is a nice commuter bike, you should be happy with it.
