Most of my jeans I don't wash because they are Dry Denim. I wear Nudies a lot and have about 3 pair of dry ones. I just washed one for the first time after wearing them for a year. In case your wondering why check out: http://www.nudiejeans.com
Once every week or two. Depends on where they've been and what I've been up to. I generally only own 1 or 2 pairs of jeans at a time.

I don't wash anything - our help does. Now, wasn't that easy.
And since we don't have hot water anywhere except in the shower - they are washed in cold water. They don't shrink - but at times I expand a little.

Correct. Not at all. These jeans are made RAW. They have never been in water or touched it. You wear the jeans for a while (6 month ave) then they start fading according to your body lines. They are made from indiigo dyes that fade over time.
Besides bikes, Jeans are my other obsession
I could probably get away with wearing them twice before washing them if I didn't throw them on the ground in a heap and get them all wrinkly after the first time.
But never? That's nasty. I've never heard of anyone (at least no one with access to wash facilities) not washing their pants.

Do men who wear dirty, smelly jeans have much luck in getting women to sit in their laps?
I am undecided as to whether or not I'd stop washing my jeans if I would be more likely to have women sit in my lap in doing so.
Hmm.
Sometimes I'm really glad that I don't understand "fashion".
Okay, I'm pretty much always glad of that.
The other day, I was talking to one of my co-workers about online forums... She visits fashion forums, and I (of course) visit this one. We realised that the thread topics are essentially the same -- "OMG, check out the 2008 models/ They've added X/ Why did they get rid of Y? / Who would buy that when it doesn't even have Z?"
Thought it was pretty funny, though she still thinks I'm a bit crazy with the bikes :D
"I have been wearing my pair of Regular Ralf Dry Selvage more or less every day since the day I got them. After a couple of monts the jeans felt "fatter," which is due to the fact that everything that ended up on the jeans was left on them and that everything on my hands was dried off on the jeans."

I went to one of the "fashion" forums linked from this thread. It was giving me a headache, but then I realized that someone not into bikes showing up in the Road forum or Mechanics or something would probably feel the same way...

Yeah, exactly. I've grown accustomed to people thinking I'm somewhat unhinged anyway :D

I didn't wash my pants for 4 months once.
I was homeless and lived in doorsteps and on park benches.
Are you homeless? If not, wash your danged pants, crust-o.

I'd guess I average about three to five days between jean washings, depends on what I've been doing.

I'm glad that I have my fiancee and a personal shopper who understand both modern fashion AND the fact that there are certain clothes that I shouldn't wear* to help me chose my wardrobe.
*Let's be honest, here. 6'6" 235 pound guys in their mid 30s who look like Sasquatch and lead a biotech engineering department shouldn't be traipsing about the office dressed in ill-fitting untucked shirts, distressed jeans, and tennis shoes.

Shower as often as you like, but it's not saving you from the denim petri dish you're putting on your arse every day. Febreze isn't helping matters any, either. Cyclodextrin (the active chemical in Febreze) works like a stank-proof bubble, trapping stinky molecules and holding them fast in place. (I used to work for P&G's research division.)
Instead of vacuuming your carpet, just shellac the dirt in place so it can't get on anything else. Don't actually clean the floor, just immobilize the dirt. That's what Febreze is doing to your pants. For 6 months.
Think about this, also. Transit time from basal production to epidermal shedding is about one month. That means in one month, a skin cell is produced at the lowest layer and moves to the outermost layer where it is shed from the body. You could probably make another person with how much filth is ground into the denim of those jeans you've got after 6 months without a wash.

I will hold of on washing new jeans for a very long time, just so i can break them in appropriately....I don't like those jeans made to look worn out....I actually DO wear mine out to get that look.
Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwww!
I normally wash BEFORE I wear them. Who knows who has tried them on at the store. :(

I've heard this about jeans - that washing them hurts them. The concept doesn't seem so far out to me.
I hurt my $30 jeans regularly. I usually wash them daily. I generally don't worry about washing every other day. If I try to get a third, it has to be winter and I need to be fairly sedentary for me not to worry about my pants. I think my record is five days, (I moved to a new town, was working crazy hours, didn't have laundry at my place, and didn't bring my whole wardrobe) and while it might have been psychological, I felt like stuff was crawling on my legs. I couldn't do the non-washing thing.
Dry denim
Dry, dark unwashed denim, is the strongest and most durable alternative, and will also give the most personal result. Use your dry jeans as much as possible before the first wash. Six months is a good start. A pair of jeans is like a second skin where the indigo and denim are living materials. Jeans is all about passion and deep relationship – the more you wear and treat your jeans, the more beautiful they get. Your everyday life gives the denim its unique character, formed by you into a second skin – personal and naked. As long as they are dry (dark and stiff) they have a surface, almost like they are water resistant. You should not try to clean local spots as it removes the indigo and you will get a bleach spot for a long time. The longer you can keep them unwashed, the more beautiful they will get.

I think that's a good habit to be in. It's my understanding that much of the chemical sizing that that they put on new clothes for shape retention and wrinkle resistance is carcinogenic. I don't know about that, but unwashed new clothes generally gives me hives if I do much more than try them out before washing.

Yup.
The jeans I wear are "used" looking anyways.

Yes, there are LOTS of chemical in fabrics when you buy them. I used to sew but literally can not look at fabric in a store without getting a headache. I like buying stonewashed jeans because they don't seem to have as many of these chemicals in them, but I still wash them to be safe.
Not to mention the person that could have sneezed and wiped their hand on them in the dressing room.

Haven't seen ya here in a while. Good to have you back:D
Call me oldshool, but I wash after every use. It makes me a bit sick to consider not washing them after one wearing - let alone after 6 months. It doesn't get much more gross than that!
... Brad
I wash the jeans I wore that week at the end of the week.
The idea of not washing them seems a little crazy to me. Sure the color doesn't last and the first day out of the washing machine they fit funny, but they're clean. Maybe there are some people who don't wash shirts either. But we all have oils/sweat we released and it's going to get into your jeans. 6 Months of that would make them nasty.
Haven't seen ya here in a while. Good to have you back:D
I'll probably disappear for a while again soon. My life has been super extra crazy for a while now and it probably won't end until next summer or later.

They're really big on pushing this whole "second skin" concept. I'll bet most people don't realize how right they really are...
So, 6 months of not washing your pants makes them beautiful? Dang, these guys better watch out or the fashionistas will snap them up to be runway models for Diesel.
