Hey, I'm glad I found this site. I was googling for info on cycling for fun and fitness and especially because I want to lose weight. I didn't really know much about bikes or cycling since I hadn't ridden since high school (and that was a long time ago), and I very quickly found myself overwhelmed by the bewildering assortment of bikes out there. That's when I decided to look for a forum.
Actually, I wasn't really sure that cycling was something I should consider doing. I mean, I'm 50 years old and I weigh 267 pounds, so I had this notion in my head that I might be too old and too fat. Imagine my delight when I found the Clydesdales forum and the 50 plus forum on this site. My fears have evaporated! I can do it! (But not in lycra shorts I tell you, nope, never, no way.)
I'm still bewildered by the incomprehensibly vast array of bikes to choose from. I was hoping I could just go buy a bike next Monday, but now I fear I may be in for days of research and indecision before I buy. Oh well, that's part of the fun. I look forward to going the bike store on Monday and subjecting some unlucky salesperson to a million newbie-cycler questions.
Oh, and my partner will be joining me in this new endeavor. He is younger and 135 pounds lighter than I, but no less ignorant of cycling. That bike shop salesperson we corner is really gonna have to earn his pay!
