Woo Hoo, just got my check from the IRS in today's mail. Wow, that was fast. In addition, I got a letter from the IRS saying my check would be arriving soon.

Soooo, I'm gonna buy that digital camer Soc just bought! I can justify by taking a lot of pictures of my son!

Oh and BTW, I also got a coupon from Circuit City for a gift card worth 10% of a single purchase. $299 camera = $30 gift card! Heck, I needed a case and an extra memory card anyways!

a2p, I thought you'd be treating him to a Santa Cruz Blur or something like it, something you could look after for him until gets to be 40 yrs old - if you catch my drift.:D

Heck, my wife got that thing and deposited it so fast I never even saw it. She knew what I would do with it. She said she was going to pay bills. Yuck!

So I went and ordered $160 worth of stuff from Nashbar. She said she wanted to pay bills. I though I would give her one to pay. Aint love grand?

Bummer. I don't get one. Because my youngest child in 19, I still claim her on my taxes as she is a full-time college student that I am fully supporting financially. But the law says children 17 and under get the tax credit refund.

Excellent choice of camera. I have the A60 (one step down) and am loving it. I would recommend getting a decent set of NiMH AA batteries (~$30) and a charger. They're supposed to last 200-300 shots on a charge and they don't get memory lines. I'm told that chargers that can charge each battery individually instead of in pairs or 4 at a time give the best longevity.
Get plenty of memory. 3 MP can take up to 2 megs a shot and you'll want to play with the video function a lot. :D

Don't you hate add-on purchases? They're worth it though.

BTW - I'm childish. Do I get a tax credit?

Uh Oh, I was looking at a Canon G-5 at the store last night. I may have to save some more cha-ching and go for it. More debate! Get the A70 and be happy, or go big and get the G-5 and do anything/everything.

My wife asked, "Why didn't we get a check for $800.00? I've got two kids, our son and you!".

Nikon 3100 is way better for like 30 bucks more, the features alone don't even compare, how many MP is the Canon?

my camera came in yesterday!! I played with it a bunch. Took some videos, some pictures. The videos are pretty good. I took one 3 minute video and had about 10 pictures on it and It was only taking about 30 mb of space. I bought a 128 mb card for 40 bucks at circuit city. I also got a huge warrenty for 50 bucks that gives me 5 years. I still need a charger and case though.

I personally would suggest the A70. It depends on your preferences. If you are oging to go for the G5 though... why not just fork out the extra and get a full SLR instead. The A70 has manual controls as well as automatic. I can do a 15 second shot. In my opinion, its either a beefed up point and shoot, aka a70, or a full slr.

Here's a link to the A70 with 3.2 mp

Here's the link to the G-5

G-5 (http://www.powershot.com/powershot2/g5/index.html)

The G-5 is a ton more money, and a bit out of my range, so I'm just really dreaming about that one. I'm definately in the A70 range. It's about $300.00 plus accessories.

Any recommendations similar to the A-70, and/or a good place for any good deals.

Bummer, went to get it last night and they're all sold out. They had like 6 there last week. Anyways, I was talking to the Manager (who's a cyclist) and he ordered one for me. I was giving him a hard time about not having one in stock and I was ready to buy with my 10% coupon in hand. He said he'd honor the coupon even if it expires by the time the camera comes in, AND he'd do a "little" better on any accessories I buy!

BTW, I couldn't find a better deal anywhere online, so sometimes it does pay to support your neighborhood stores!

I have the G3 and my dad has the G5. It is worth saving up and getting the G5 it is a real sweet camera. You can also get different lens kits for the G series like a wide angle and use different filters like haze and polarized. The only problem Ihave had with the g3 is I need another hard drive now since my wife has filled mine with pictures of my son.

I just ordered a Nikon Coolpix 4300 myself, but you can't go wrong with the A70. Here is a review on it.
