View Full Version : Where to take a girl?

I know this may sound weird, but im serious. New Orleans is pretty much dead. There is nothing to do here, and movies are really boring. What are some places i could bring a girl? She keeps wanting to do stuff with me but i don't even know where to bring her....:(

No that is one thing that i would like to do with her, but she doesn't enjoy it as i do.

Well, what's she like?

She likes to hang out friends, go to like parties and movies. She said she would like to do other stuff but there really isn't anything else.

Might surprise some of you to hear, but women are different from each other from time to time.

Go to the beach maybe? That's a fun way to kill an afternoon.

donnamb

Hm, that's tough. Save for an Xtracycle and take her on that? I can't speak for anyone else, but my idea of a fun date is riding places. Pack a lunch and ride to a park, or a museum, or a farmers' market, or even a flea market. Converse. Laugh. Do other stuff. (age appropriate, of course ;)) I had a friend in high school whose date picked her up, took her to the Red Cross, they donated blood, and then went out to eat. Seems kind of strange, but she had a surprisingly good time.

There isn't one near by.

donnamb- Those are some good ideas. Right now the weather is acting up, and is probably going to rain. Not to mention i am broke.

You just covered most, if not all of the items on my checklist for what consitiutes the perfect date but what is this other age appropriate stuff you speak of ?

The women I dated back in my "single" days seemed to enjoy:

- the Zoo

- riding bikes through historic districts

- art museums

- concerts

- clubs with live music

- sitting on the sofa reading books and drinking coffee

Some women seem to prefer shopping and window shopping...make a deal...one day at the shopping mall equals one day at a baseball game.

Just keep in mind that we are giving advice to someone under 21. Have you even turned 18 yet, russiankdi? It does limit some of the places they can go.

my grandfather used to say "i wouldn't take her home to mother, but i'd take her somewhere."

not sure if that helps though.

If we let that stop us in the PNW, we'd never leave the house from October-May. I could see not being used to it, though. I guess you guys that are driven nuts by women fussing over their hair, makeup, and clothes before a date might like it. :D

Besides the Xtracycle, some of those ideas are the cheapest date activities around. Do you cook? Does your mom cook? I wonder if she'd assist you in making a primo lunch for such a date...

I don't know either of you, so I'm going to talk about what I've enjoyed in the past, that isn't the old "dinner and drinks" or "dinner and a movie" thing.

I haven't been in New Orleans much since Katrina. I hear what you're saying about bikes, but I went on a date with a non-bike person that involved renting a pair of really simple bikes and going for a ride along the lakefront in Mandeville, La, then riding several miles down the Tammany Trace and back. There was no crazy bike tech, just two people on a pair of cheap bikes, moving at a slow, conversational pace. Afterwards, we had sushi then watched a movie. If I remember correctly, there was a section of levee on the southshore that was picnic and bicycle friendly. Just rent her a cruiser, strap a picnic basket on any rack you might have, and go for a casual ride along the water. 6mph, or whatever.

Take a frisbee or a ball to the park and make up some game.

Go to a coffee shop and double-team the Times Picayune crossword puzzle or sudoku. Everyone talks about The Quarter, but have you gone during the day? Hit The French Quarter at about nine or ten in the morning on a weekday. The vibe is totally different than going at night. Take in some art galleries, have a light lunch at a cafe, then go hike down the riverwalk a way.

Hit the road. The Mississippi Gulf Coast is only about an hour by car, and they have some nice beaches. I just learned that there's an ice skating rink in Carencro, LA. I've never been, but dang - ice skating in Louisiana - what a concept.

Another option might be renting a two-place kayak. It's about $35 for 24 hours. There used to be a sushi place uptown called Ninja that was really nice. Go to the zoo, the aquarium, or a museum.

Go to the better kitchen, (at your place or hers) and cook a meal together. Just pick a recipe or two you think you can make, and cook it.

Oh, and a tip: The World War II Museum is not an appropriate date destination. It's great. It's heavy, intense, depressing, well done, and a horrible environment for a date. Yeah, voice of experience.

Man, that's a long post.

A nice cafe :).

My first date w/ Wife went like this:
We talked on phone, agreed to meet for a light lunch. [ Lunch is good because if you do not hit it off, you can excuse yourself gracefully and with class.]

We hit it off well and decided to take her car back to her Apt. and we went to a Bahama Mama's [ a club on the beach] for a couple of nice Margarita's. [your lack of age will alter this step:)]

By then, if your afternoon is almost over and she still does not want to go home, take in a movie.

Strack!

Do they still have pedalboats for rent in City Park? That with a picnic was a favorite fun but inexpensive weekend outing back when I lived in NOLA. I don't know whether Audubon zoo and park have been restored, but those may be possibilities also. Early on a Sunday morning, the streets of the Quarter will be deserted and belong just to the two of you - visit the French Market for delicious ripe berries, plums and oranges, and cafe au lait at Cafe du Monde, and wander around watching the city wake up. When really broke, we would go for snowballs from that place around the Riverbend area, and then stroll along St. Charles Avenue to pick out the house we wanted if we were born rich next time. Surely do miss that girl, and New Orleans too.

Thanks everyone. I should check out City Park and see what attractions they have inside. The French Quarter is definitely an option because i know she likes the quarter. Going out to lunch would be nice, i will have to do some searching to see where is the best place to go have some lunch.

I can guarantee that she can't do half the pole-monkey stunts most strippers can.

EDIT: And if she could, you would be having amazing sex right now, in all sorts of sweet positions.

sell some blood
steal an air conditioner
collect aluminum cans on roadside
sell your hair to locks of love
max out the American Express

Seriously man, you do not need a lot of dough for a nice time with your girl.
Concert in the park
Go to the zoo or the local aquarium
Visit the Dog and kitty adoption place. I did this once and the girls drool for you when you schmooze on a puppy or kitten.
A walk in a State Park was what I did a lot of with one girl who loved nature
Another girl I used to take to watch sunsets
Matinee [sp] movies are cheap, it is the popcorn and drinks that get you
Look in your Thursday's newspaper for the "weekend" happenings
News Stations web sites offer great "to do" things for newcomers to town

I hope this helps and good luck russiankdi.

You guys are corrupting the boy with this talk of strippers... shame on you.

A proper gentleman would not date a young lady without permission from the girl's father and the appointment of a chaperone to protect the boy from the young girl's advances.

So i was thinking, i may just bring her to the French Quarter maybe go to the riverside mall on the riverwalk. Then go sit in the park in the FQ. On weekends they usually have like music everywhere so we could go somewhere.

You could hike on the levee. I had a couple of running dates while I was down there a few months ago that were kind of fun.

Hiking/Walking is always a good thing to do. Especially if you can find some interesting things in the area or are simply into the moving while talking thing.

The Observatory date is killer (well, depending on the lady), if you have one in your area. Combined with novel cuisine, so win.
