Classic & Vintage - Guerciotti Advice!!!!!

wtb guerciotti vintage road bike. Campagnolo super record components good cond. 16lbs? 900$ what do you guys think, what other bike would you recommend if not this one? thx in advanced

I dont think vintage Guercs were that light. Maybe 20 lbs. What year. The 70's Guercs were awesome. With Super Record components, $900 sounds like a deal.

Just make sure the frame is straight, wheels are in good shape, etc. If you gotta redo the wheels, thats some big bucks. If the frame has a problem then youve got a super record set with no frame to hang them on.

In 1977, my 52cm Columbus SL Guerciotti weighed in at approx 20.7 lbs equipped with a SR reduced group and Clement criterium seta's.
Even with full SR titanium, Everest aluminum f/w, and all the O.M.A.S. trick bits you could throw at it, you could only have dropped the total weight by just a fraction over a pound more.

20+ lbs sounds on target, and I think you can do better for $900, unless the pieces are fantastic. What size frame?

~Are you reading a For Sale ad and want to know if that description is worth $900?

~Or possibly someone wants to buy the old Italian bike that your brother left you when he "shipped out" and you never ride? And because it's light, like 16 pounds, will it get me 9 bills?

~But what I really think is...your buddy wants to unload HIS old road bike on you by telling you it ONLY weighs 16 pounds! And you want to know if a 16 pound bike could really be worth that kind of coin?
I mean heck, that IS pretty "light". ;)

thx, i believe its a early 80s model and is 59cm. My questions were do you think its really that light, and is it worth it regardless of its wieght? what other vintage bikes are better? i also found a fausto coppi for 650$ is this a better bike?

No, it's not really that light.
When it comes to vintage bikes, weight is not a major consideration - if it is for you, the vintage thing probably isn't your bag, baby.
No, it's not worth that much unless it's in really pristine shape, and even then ... Let's just say it doesn't sound like a deal you would be a fool to refuse.
Guerciotti's are very good and collectable bikes; not the very top tier, however. Lots of "vintage bikes" are as good or better.
A Fausto Coppi is not generally as desirable as a Guerciotti. Keep in mind that this may have little to do with performance. If you're talking 80's in particular, many top-end bikes, and especially Italian ones, were built with the same tubing, investment cast lugs, and were available with Super Record components (a good thing to look for, however). In many cases, there's not much to distinguish between them other than cache. If you're looking at spending that kind of money, take your time, learn as much as you can, look at as many bikes as you can, and decide what features are important to you.

I concur with the others that it probably weighs a bit over 20 lbs. and that this is simply not a problem.
