Hi All,
I found this site while researching a bike I got today, it's a Univega of unknown vintage. Somehow, that brings my bike count to eleven:
1. Original bike: 1986 (I think) Detel Marathon 2000. Notable for a 69cm frame (traditional measurement). This is the bike I used for commuting to work 'way back when.
2. Woman's Red Murray three speed (Shimano) of unknown vintage. A freebie from a neighbor, overhaul, replace the tires and it's my wife's main ride
3. My boss likes to trail ride at lunch, so I went looking for a trail bike. Found a white Bianchi Broadway, unknown vintage. $5.00 at a tag sale. Good deal, but I haven't done anything with it because of. . . .
4. 2003 Trek Navigator 200. Another $5.00 tag sale bike that I got the next day with bad brakes and rusted cables and chain. Nice things: Suspension Seat and front fork, comfortable riding position. Overhauled (regreased, cleaned and oiled everything), and I use it for lunch time rides and rides with my daughter, bringing us to. . .
5. Little girls bike from Wal Mart. My daughter's bike, she's five, and I just took off the training wheels, so she's still a little nervous riding alone. This caused 1/2 bike number. . .
6. Trek Mountain Trail trailer bike. Attaches to seat post on the other Trek. Bright red, and my daughter loves it! We got it while vacationing in Maine. My wife didn't have a bike with her, so the place we got the trailer bike offered (for free) a. . .
7. Raleigh Woman's three speed. This is a strange bike, Alloy quick release in front, alloy wheels in back, a newer handlebar. I've done nothing to it, my wife's just ridden it. It's somewhat lighter then her Murray!
8. While overhauling my wife's Murray (No. 2), I dropped the bearing that holds the 3speed switch in place. A replacement bearing showed up in a blue Ross men's three speed, complete with fenders, etc. This was another side-of-the-road freebie.
9. The Trek Navigator is nice on the trails, but only so-so on the road. The Detel's a little tall for me now (I have no idea why), so I went looking for a comfortable road bike. Tag Sale time. This one is a green and black Raleigh Grand Prix. This (according to the owner of my LBS) is somewhat rare. Manufactured in Holland under license by Raleigh. Simplex Deraileurs, Weinmann centerpull brakes, alloy rims and hubs. Not much in the way of rebuilding yet, just the rebuild the headset and brakes. It came with 700c wheels (wrong size), so I replaced 'em with the 27" wheels off the Detel.
10. Another 'found' bike. This one's a Woman's Schwinn World Sport 10 or 12 speed. Frame's in real nice shape, wheels out of true, tires flat, chain and other parts somewhat rusty.
and, at long last, the reason I'm here:
11. Univega, S/N H508914. Gold annodized Galli chainrings and cranks, Galli Cross Brakes, Campy Headset, Campy Brake handles, Avocet seat, Galli FD and RD, Campy controls. The frame needs repainting, no frame insignia at all. Just the Univega tag on the steering tube. I'd like to find out more about this bike. Seems lightweight and well equipped.
