I believe they plan to start selling a L2D QR that uses the Cree LED in NOv, wouldn't that be the best of both worlds?

I am thinking of going this route but I have flat top drop bars, I don't think the lockblock will work, any ideas?

This is an excellent question. How long and at what temperature!! I have had run times approaching 30 minutes w/ no problems. I ride in the 'burbs so have few stops. I check the temp of the light and it never feels real hot only lukewarm. I guess this is OK. I hope to test it out for longer times in the near future. Anyone else have longer than 30 minute rides with it in turbo mode? I guess we'll be the testing ground. On a side note: A computer will overheat if not for the fans. Our bicycling speed will be our fans...makes sense to me. Charlie
PS post up if you have ridden it in turbo for longer than 30 min.

I've used my Fenix light on Turbo exclusivly for several sets of batteries.

I've also emailed Fenix and been told it's a-ok to use Turbo on their hi-po AA and cr123a lights as long as the light head doesn't get too hot to touch. the tech support guy thought it would be fine on a bike with all the airflow. keep in mind they have a great warranty, and i haven't seen ANY stories of Fenix lights blowing up or melting down due to heat.

cheers

I've just looked up the price of these lights in the UK, and it's really got me thinking. I bought a Cateye EL500 on closeout for £20, managed to have it drop off my bars and kill itself after 3 days, and then replaced it for the same price. For that money, I could've bought one of the lights you guys are discussing. I'd ruled out things like that little Dinotte because it was just too much money, but at £37 for that amount of light, I might well persuade myself.

The lockblocks have quite a bit of flex on the tips of the "U" where they fit to the bar. You might still be able to use them just fine, even with flat top bars. I think if you pressed the lockblock to the bar just a bit and then tightened it with the Velcro, it might hold very well. But I'm just guessing based on my general handling of the lockblocks. And adjusting the exact tilt of the light might be a bit more tricky than with a round bar. Unfortunately, I don't have any flat bars to test them on or I'd try it and let you know.

I've been riding with the Fenix L2D Premium 100 lights for a few weeks now and exclusively using turbo mode when I ride. On the bike, you have cooler night air and typically "wind chill" to whatever extent based on your riding speed. It's like of like having a computer CPU with a heatsink and fan on all the time. I don't think there's any way one of these is going to overheat when riding at night -- even with an occasional pause in your riding.

Is this what you are referring to or is there a newer, more powerful Cree?

I asked about this one and was told the light was whiter than the Rebel LED. It appears most people on this forum prefer the tinted color of the L2D Premium 100.

Yes, Actually shipping says 10/26, so I went ahead and ordered one of these. I think I would prefer a whiter light than a tinted color, at least I do with my car headlights.

varuscelli, I think they owe you some commissions.

After reading all these discussions I ordered the Premium Q5 Cree that stonecrd referenced and a bikeblock. I used the cpf8 discount coupon. Hopefully there are some available.

I found this Fenix L2D Premium Q5 Cree XR-E that says it has 180 lumens on turbo. And this one, Fenix L2D Premium100 Rebel LED thats says it has 175 lumens on turbo. I know thats not alot of difference in output, but is one better than the other? They are both the same price.

<Spinal Tap voice> But this one goes to 180 </Spinal Tap>

I ordered the Rebel last week, I didn't want to wait. You won't be able to tell the difference in brightness between 175 or 180. At candlepowerforums.com, those flashlight fanatics all have opinions on which is better. Some like the Rebel for color rendition. But I don't think it's too critical on a bike. I do like the yellowish tint on my Fenix that contrasts with the bluish tint on my Dinotte.

I can leave mine on turbo mode all the time, too. It doesn't get too hot even just sitting on a table.

Maybe they'll send me an extra flashlight for Christmas...

...as long as I send them $60 first. ;)
