Fifty Plus (50+) - So Here They Are

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I was asked to post some images of bikes I'd built. So here they are.
The TE Clone in Purple was the first one I built it is a good fast bike.
Rob's Bike was built for Rob who thought he'd like a bent.
Dick's Bike was special. Dick was having trouble riding an upright. The Bike I made him has given him a new lease of life and he is out riding almost every day.
I built another of these but no picture.
The above bikes were recycled from uprights.
David's frame was built for David in Sydney and he did a great job of finishing it up.
I was going to offer to do one for Europa (Richard) but He has now ordered a commercial offering.
My Bentech, The Yellow one, has disk brakes and a powdercoat finish. It is a great bike but I need to redo the seat a bit lower.
I used mild steel and muffler tube in the Bentechs.
All the bikes weighed about 15kg
The Logos. These trikes were built commercially by our friend Martin Arnold of Logotrikes.com. The image is wife Helen and myself about to try the new bikes.
So thats it for our stables.:)
once again thanks to all for the welcome to the forum.

I like that TE clone and Rob's bike. Very nice.
Dick's bike is a wild one. Haven't seen one quite like that.
A lot of variety in those bikes. It would be fun to try them all.

Looks real good now he has painted it and added front and back racks.
The interesting bit is the seat made from old exercise equipment bits and the remains of a golf cart frame. It's surprisingly comfortable.
It has quite a bit of tiller effect in steering that the purple one doesn't due to differing geometry.

Thanks for the compliment. You'll have to emmigrate.:)
I enjoy building them and getting people riding. Especially so for Dick who is a pensioner and couldn't have afforded to buy a bike like that.
Would like to look at your pics; however, everytime I click on one of the links, I get a "server is too busy" message.

Leigh,
I can't weld with an electric welder very well. I borrowed an Oxy set from a friend and found that I could braze and silver solder so thats what I do.
Make sure the work is shiny clean, plenty of flux and heat until the bronze rod flows. It was that simple.
I got the friend to show me how to set the oxy acetelyne flame for the job.
Jigs help and I made them for all except the purple one. The wooden jig wasn't the best idea as it catches alight now and then but it does the job and I've now made a metal one.
Always amazes me what we over 50's can achieve when we set our minds to it. If I'd been told not so many years back that I'd be building bikes I would probably have laughed.
Might be an idea for a new thread there somewhere!

Oooooo...Lenny likes!!!
The Bentech looks really nimble but I think I like Rob's bike the best.
Great Job!!!!
I have a local friend who builds his own 'bent frames, as well. I am adept at swapping components around on factory-built frames, but I respect you guys for taking "bike building" up another entire level! My elder son is pretty handy with the oxy-acetylene welding kit is grandfather bought him a few years ago, so perhaps there is another father-son activity in our future.
Those are impressive bikes, should make riders happy for many miles!

The position on the logobike looks very uncomfortable. Why ride a bike like that?

looks like I'm about to go the Oxy way...
But maybe I should stop as my shed is full of bikes... but I don't have a trike
Who knows what we'll build next

Actually lhe Logo Trike is a very comfortable bike and our favourites for touring.
Some friends have just ridden from DeadHorse Alaska to Calgary Canada as well as round Australia on their Logos
