Forum Suggestions & User Assistance - why is thumnail preview broken?

- sorry if this has been asked and answered already (i've looked, asked in the 'how to post a pic' thread - but no answer)...

- sometime this month (after the 12th or so), the preview feature of thumbnail images of managed pics attached to posts has become disabled... now, only the name of the image shows, *not* the small image...

- is something broken? has something changed on BF?

- i'm only asking because, IMHO, some of the posts are less interesting without the preview (and less helpful)...

- seems like a downgrade? any way the 'fix' this? recommended file format? (i know about the size restrictions and required file types)...

- oh, here's an example:

- hmm... two different non-MS OSs, five different browsers with no managed pic thumbnail previews...

- not a deal breaker non-feature for me, but disappointing... how can the problem be OS X and Linux?

linux author, you certainly know more about the various browsers than I do--but it does seem odd that OS X and Linux don't work as well for that as IE.

Ehhh, my standard answer here will have to do: perhaps someone with more knowledge than I will be able to help you :) .

Just noticed that it also doesn't work in Firefox 2.0.0.7 or IE 7.0.5730.11 on Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2.

- tks, east hill... something definitely happened in the last week or so... either on my end or here on BF...

- i have gone back to some of my previous posts w/thumbnails and they display without problem...

- it appears that the filename of any thumbnail of a managed pic is now being set to 'jpg.gif' - which doesn't work - although clicking on the name of the image does bring up the full size image...

- let me try a different type of pic, such as a .gif...

- aha! it's working! now to try a different file:

- nope!!! looks like .jpg preview is broken (for me!)... the previous .gif works fine...

- i'll experiment some more...

- thank you... i'd feel bad if the problem were on my end, but i think there's either some php or jsp coding on BF with a typo?
