I recently purchased Pearl Izumi road shoes as well as a Dolce Specialized road bike. My feet keep falling asleep after just 15 miles. Any ideas as to why this is happening?

Not enough circulation. Bike shoes tend to be tight.

I think there are several threads on this problem, most probably in the Road Cycling forum.

Try using the shoes without pulling the velcro straps tight. Just flop them over loosely to fasten. your feet will swell over the course of your ride, so be sure to allow for some room in the shoes.

try using thin sox as well!

if the above suggestions still don't work, is there a bicycle shop that sells shoes you could try on and "walk around with" first?

Road bike shoes will stretch a bit at first...so give it time. And remember to pedal "up" on the the upstroke to help stretch the shoe.
Bike shoes are supposed to be tight - and uncomfortable to walk in - but once on the bike, they should be fine.

Was once told that bike shoes fit like climbing shoes and are about as fun to walk in! I have not found this to be true. A well fitting shoe is never uncomfortable. The right combination of lenth and width of the shoe is just more critical since flex is bad. I tried on every manufacturers shoe in my size and found the last that fit the width the best and then tried both larger and smaller sizes. A lot of work for a pair of shoes that you just might have for the rest of your riding days I think not!

Not so! Cycling shoes are just like walking shoes. They wear out and must be replaced

I solved the whole problem of "biking" shoes and started using Teva sandals with wide touring pedals and my feet have never been more comfortable. I used them on my commute to work 56 miles RT and never had numb toes or sore feet. You might try reading www.rivbike.com under their article on cycling shoes. Contrary to popular opinion riding clipped in is not much better than riding unclipped and only results in a few seconds difference at most in miles of riding. Thats fine for racers but it isn't necessary for the rest of the cycling world. Keep in mind that millions of cyclists world wide ride in their everyday walking shoes.

I guess the point is to wear shoes! I just have never heard of many riders actually wearing through their road shoes. Maybe to update styles or adjust performance but weariing through? To much walking I would think? Lots better shoes for the cross over bunch than road shoes. True though regular old sneakers probably account for the majority of bike riders in the world. I Love to pedal in my shimanos but I really dont like to walk in them at all. I always carry a second set of light shoes or have them available when off the bike. I have even gone bare foot if that's the only other option. A simple pair of sandals would do in that instance just as fine as well.

I have a pair of Time shoes and a pair of PI. The PI's definitely are not as comfortable. again try thin socks. They are a correct fit. They should only be a little snug.
