Mountain Biking - Upgrading Rockhopper

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

So scrap the idea of a new bike, I thought I could afford one but no. So I was thinking, why not upgrade? I was thinking of putting a new fork and maybe some new rims one my 07 Rockhopper Disc, to try and make it more of an all mountain rig (if that's possible). Tell me if this is completely stupid or not. The other option is to just make due and get a new bike next year. Thanks to anyone who helps
What is your definition of an 'All-Mountain' rig?

Make due. Save money. Get what you want next year and you'll be glad you waited.

Something with longer travel shocks, able to do some descents as well as ascents, tougher frames and components, a mix of freeride and XC.
