I have this hilly loop that kicks my butt just curious how it stacks up against the rest of the hilly training loops out there. It's only 12 miles long but has 2 air sucking climbs. (Check out the evelvation)

Yikes, those climbs look like they average about 7-7.5%, but they look like they have some STEEP spots in them. I'm pretty sure that would make me cry.

for comparison, here's my hilly training ride at 29 and change. ;)

We don't have a lot of hills to even compare down here in corn country. Even Tom's route looks like Mt Everest compared to my routes.

Yikes! I've got a lot of work to do. This will be my first 50+ I'm thinking 2 weeks.

You've got a couple hundred more feet of climb than my 12 mile ride.

I'll make myself feel better about it by claiming less useable oxygen at my altitude!

Too funny..Yea, there is no shortage of oxygen on my ride, just my ability to use it.

Here's (http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/ca/los-gatos/563926160) where I ride on weekends when I need to get a lot of piss & vinegar out of my system and have a couple hours to do it. It's a ride where I might see people for the first 8 miles or so....and basically never see people on the mid section of the ride especially when it gets "cold" around here. There's some variants that I take, but at mile 10, it's either go back down the hill or get ready for some nasty climbing on loose, rutted, gravel covered ground. Miles 13-15 are wicked difficult...as are 20-21.5....and to be honest, most people go the other direction on this ride (or variants of the ride) because it's easier to ride the other direction.

It's a great cross-country training ride, to be sure. Not surprisingly, not too many other people tag along with me on this ride. But I like it...starts nice and slow and then doesn't let up for a little while.

Comments, anyone?

My old extreme ride only beats Mr Beanz' high point by a few feet. Used to do this one 3-4 times a week when I worked for the summer out in Estes Park, CO.

max: 8933ft
min: 7564ft
ascent: 1274ft
descent: 1353ft

8933 (max) - 7564 (min) = 1369, but yet the ascent only shows 1274? I wish mapmyride would fix their software to accurately calculate the total ascent and descent.

I don't know about anyone else, but I can't trust mapmyride for elevation data at all. Their profile for my 12 mile ride shows over 1500 feet of ascent and over 1300 of descent, but my gps only gave me 683 feet of ascent (I don't measure descent, I just enjoy it!) from my ride yesterday.

If you start and stop at the same place, shouldn't they be equal? I seem to remember that from surveying.

Here's the one I did recently out in UT, ID, and WY. I only rode the first 80 miles, but they were tough!

Here is where you can find the rest of the data: http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/invitation/email/accept.mb?senderPk.pkValue=110346&unitSystemPkValue=2&episodePk.pkValue=3911814

Try Bikely.com. Much better IMHO.

High point it a bit higher but only a couple thousend feet of elevation gain. My ride is 12,000 ft gain!;)

Don't remind me, trying not to think about it yet :)

Here's my after work loop. It's 18-24 miles depending on whether I add flat miles. At 18 (as pictured), it's pretty much all up and down. The 17% grade is a kick in the pants for sure.
