Hows do the Campy groups fall into "top to bottom" as far as quality and what was put on the best bikes? Did it go "Super" to "Grand" to "Nuovo" and whats the difference between them? Where the place to learn more about campy parts? Thanks

The best place to learn about Campy parts is either at
Campy Only (http://www.campyonly.com/)
look for the timeline that they have.
Another good place is Velo Retro Campy Timeline (http://www.velo-retro.com/tline.html)
Both have when gruppos were released etc.
As to the heirachy for the "modern" groups (i.e. downtube
shifting etc.).
The first of the gruppos your mentioned was Gran Sport, came out in early 50's. It was out at the same time as Cambio Corsa
and Paris-Roubaix derailleurs (not really modern stuff).
Record came out in 1960, was top of the line when it came out.
Nuovo Record came out in 1967, Record R.derailleur was available
until 1973.
There were other gruppos at the time, Valentino, Nuovo Sport
these were lesser groups.
Super Record was shown in 1974, included Ti bits and was
top of the line.
Last Super record was produced in 1987, not sure when
Nuovo record was stopped.

Hope that helps.
