Southern California - About to exit my dorm for the first time in all my cycling stuff

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
UCSB....ahhh the memories. What dorm are you in ? My freshman year I lived in Anacapa.
I was in Anacapa my freshman year as well, which was 97-98. When were you there?

UCSB was good fun...until I got hit by a car and my bike was damaged and the driver took off...I was w/o bike for a good bit...
I miss the taco shops on Milpass...

i was there 96-97 but only stayed one semester.
Hi,
It's a little amusing to me that cyclists are still a bit self-conscious about their appearance since the sport has become fairly mainstream.
Try leaving your dorm room in tight WOOL shorts with a period-correct jersey in 1975. That's when I was a freshman at a small engineering college in upstate New York. Back then, most people didn't even know that bicycle racing was a sport -- Tour de WHAT? ;)
Then I started commuting to work by bike in SoCal in 1979... Back then I was lucky to see another serious cyclist on PCH during my weekend rides.
Anyway, to the OP, you'll get over it and then maybe you'll even be comfortable wearing a jersey that is mostly pink. :D ;)
I am going to UCSB. It was pretty funny actually on my second ride today. The first ride was the first ride of the year/intro ride so it was short. Second ride was with a guy who wanted to go out ride some more so it was about 40 miles thesecond ride with a fair amount of hill climbing but mainly just a social ride.
Funny that I would find you here on bikeforums... I hope you enjoyed the ride, despite the fact it was a bit shorter then I had hoped it would be. At least we managed to get you back before the dining commons closed. Maybe some time next week when I'm feeling a little better I'll show you some other local rides.
Do a facebook search for my aim screenname (mrjmechy) and add me on there.

Ah.......UCSB. Lived there as a baby on Pasado Rd. Went to nursery school in Isla Vista when the bank burned in 1970, when beer couldn't be sold within a 1 mile radius of campus. Not too long after that the beer trucks started rolling in. Eventually attended from '87-'89. The bank building had by then morphed into The Graduate, a big hall with kegs in every corner. Grad night on Wednesday, Pub Night on Thursday, then it was the weekend and all that. Girls everywhere! The eternal fountain of youth. Oh yeah, there are some good places to ride as well.

Hey John, were you "the guy who wanted to go out ride some more"? Anyway, the three of us should hook up and I'll take you both on some routes I haven't shown you yet. :D

Haha I can understand... I felt a bit out of place walking out of my dorm at the beginning of the year. I had the comfort of being at end of the hallway right near an exit, so I can make a quick getaway.

I sure was. New routes are always fun, sounds good to me. Dan is a stronger climber then me, so we should be able to put in some good rides.
