I did the Xmas Club Century last year. ( See http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=250348 )

It was a lot of fun until it started to rain :)

The ride is backend loaded on the climbing (Up Encinal to Mulholland at mile 74).

Highly recommended and it is for a good cause. Great social ride at any pace.

I RSVP'd to Planet Ultra and will see you there .....

OMG! I'm still having nightmares about the headwinds out there a couple of days ago. :p

Funny you mention that Ron. Last year when we hit the Camarillo flat lands we experienced torrential head winds until we hit PCH.

I'll be there, did it last year. It's a great ride, nice and flat.;) Well as flat as you can get in the Santa Monica mtn's.

Here is the profile of the ride.

Ron,

I hate to tell you this, but the headwinds we hit on Sunday on the coastal plain, were mild. Everytime I have ridden across that plain, the winds have been heavier than they were on Sunday.

They were much heavier last year on the Christmas century. But who knows, maybe this year Santa will bring us a gift, like a nice tailwind. (NOT)

And she's not kidding...;)

I may do this. I have a century the weekend before that's going to kick my cycling arse from here until tomorrow, so I'll see if I'm even up to riding this one!

Everyone pulled my sorry *** enough last weekend. I'd have to pull this whole ride to make up for it. I'm going to miss this one though. TnT duties will be taking over all my Saturdays from late Oct through March.

Lee, I've been out there in worse headwinds as well. Ugh, give me Decker any day of the week over those winds!

I'm in for this one, it is a great century to finish the year with. Hopefully this year I won't bonk on Encinal. like I did last year.

M.E., we are expecting you to be there, after the ride last year, in the ride thread you stated.
Great pics, guys. I recognize a lot of riders out there. I'll have to join next year as I'm sure I missed an awesome ride. :):D:D

Brat.:p Look it, I'm doing Tour de Francis - one I CANNOT miss or the Adobo guys are going to disown me entirely - and that is a brutal ride to Lake Hughes in headwinds. I'll be lucky if I can walk the following week, let alone ride. But I will TRY to make it. :D

I don't remember any rain.

I stopped numerous times on PCH with the people I was riding with to fix flats. One every block it seemed for a while.

Then we missed the Encinal turn and didn't realize it until we got to Trancus Beach. Had to turn around and go back.

We started to get rained on just as we were descending rock store.

Obviously you made it back before the downpour. :)

Merider1 is planning on riding both events ;) But I cannot answer on the one week being sufficient recovery. Tour de Francis will be a kick in the tail for sure...at least for me, that is. :D

You weren't rude, You were doing 25mph down a twisty road, I wouldn't have stopped either. The wind just before the gate was insane! Two of our riders decided to turn around. I watched some riders attempt to pass and they were blow over. Once you passed that section it only blew me around a little. I kept thinking of the incredible tail winds we would have on the way back but there was none. Totally still, felt like a head wind:mad:

we were into the wind most of the way back to glendale....tough going! you guys are way tougher than me for making it all the way! that of course goes for everyone that made it to the village on saturday. i was getting uber-frustrated both with the wind and my out of shapeness......good times!

Well, I've been watching the reports and it varies between 30 and 60% chance of showers all day, clearing late Saturday night, so I doubt I'm going to plan for it. Besides, I have my company Holiday party Friday night and BF Holiday party Saturday night. I need my beauty sleep.

Unless it is raining hard I will be there, a little drizzle has never hurt me. I will even drive there if it is raining. Don't be a wuss!!!!!!!!!!:D:D

I can't tell you how many times I have driven through terrible weather to find great weather for the event. Besides the precip prop for Saturday has gone down from 60% to 30%.

Remember, how everyone thought this summer, that the Zaca fire was going to make Cool Breeze all smoky. The winds showed up Saturday morning, and blew all the particles and smoke away from the route, there was no problem. All of those that didn't come missed out on a great day and a great ride.

Don't know. I'm also thinking of bailing if it rains. I'll still drive up to the area because of the BF dinner that night. Will most likely be a day-of decision for me. :p

Just be safe, there a lots of crazies(motorists) on the road this time of year.

From Planet Ultra:

Due to the high probability of rain Saturday - and the 100% chance that the roads will be wet no matter what, we're rescheduling the century for the following weekend, December 15th.

If you've already RSVP'd for the 8th and CAN come on the 15th, no need to contact us. If you CAN'T come on the 15th, please let us know.

So sorry for any inconvenience - especially to those who ride rain-or-shine (who are definitely the MINORITY).

Hope to see y'all on the 15th!

Some of us are still planning to meet at the Commons at 8:00 and do a ride in the Santa Monicas if it's not raining. It's free, fun, and probably around 60-70 miles. Everyone is welcome.
