"The 33"-Road Bike Racing - 2006 Fuji? Please help.

So my TCR C1 was totalled out, and I need a new bike for the last race of the season. I found a full carbon Fuji Team Issue, with DA. The bike is a new 2006 for 2700? I'm mostly attracted by the components. Am I wrong about Fuji being an ok frame? More importantly, is that a good deal?

Great race frame. I did all my crits and most of my flatter road races on one this year and was most pleased.

Well sh*t, if it's good enough for you, then it's sure as hell good enough for me. What do you think of the price?

That's a hard one for me, I tend to just buy framesets and not whole bikes. If it's the same components as this:

then it would be in the ballpark of "very good buy".

A friend threw a curveball my way. What about a Cervelo Soloist Team (alu) with maybe DA or nice hoops for the same price? It would be heavier, of course, and alu, which I'm not crazy about, but everyone does seem to rave about the frame.

I wouldn't pay the extra $500-900 for DA, but the deal might be worth it depending on which wheels we're talking about. In either event, if I had to choose, I'd get the Cervelo in a heartbeat.

Having raced aluminum Cervelos, and Fuji carbon, I wouldn't, especially if it's the same price for an equally spec'd bike. Not even close in weight, ride quality, stiffness where you need it, or finish.

Take a look at the details on the Fuji, like the machined dropouts, BB shell, fork, paint, Etc. Then go look at the same stuff on the Cervelo. Close your eyes and ask yourself C7 carbon monocoque or welded aluminum. Ride both. Then decide how much the blingy name is worth.

IMHO Fuji is highly underrated, mostly because they were doing the entry level, price point thing for quite a few years. People who haven't ridden their new carbon dismiss them as blase which is too bad, because the Team I'm riding is my favorite crit/sprint bike so far, and I've gone through a fair number of bikes as JRennie can testify. Thing is just rock solid.

I had an 06 Fuji Team Issue - the red one with the WCS Stripes. Excellent build quality, light and nice bike. Gret bang for the buck!!! I like my Caad8 better though and sold it. I didn't have a good reason to sell it I just wanted to try out a Six13. I think I may have like the Fuji better than the Six13. Just my $.02.

RacerEx goes through a couple bikes(Yeah, like pantani did just a little bit of drugs). I would go with a carbon fuji over the team soloist anyday. While they are both great bikes, the Fuji is lighter, better comfort, very capable racer(see guy two posts above) and the soloist(team) has a rep for being a little on the harsh side and makes lots of noise due to the cable routing on aluminum.

fuji is way underrated. Great bikes at a great price.
