Any buddy got anything good to say about mirrors?

My buddy's bike is really heavy and if he clips a car's side view mirror with his handlebar at the right angle he'll be able pop the mirror off

I would be very uncomfortable riding w/o a mirror. I have a Mirrocycle (sic?) on my hybrid commuter and a "Take-a-Look" clip-on for my glasses for my mountain and road bike. It takes a few rides to get used to but after a while it becomes second nature.

I just switched to Blackburn multimirror on my road bike and although a bit shaky, its a great mirror. Wide angle view and completely adjustable. Totally worth $19 at REI.

For quite a few years, I rode an old Honda motorcycle that had two mirrors. I got so accustomed to it (and really being able to see what was approaching from behind on either side of me) that even on bicycles I feel like I want to be able to see that well. It might look funky, but I think it's a whole lot safer than not having them (whichever style you happen to like).

I rode with a third eye mirror mounted on my goggles for 20 years. I would definitely get a Take-A-Look if that is the style you prefer.

I now use these:

Sprintech on my left handlebar end. They are usually sold in pairs and the store that I purchased it at only had a single. I would have probably went with this mirror only if I had gotten a pair.

I also have the Zefal Spy Mirror mounted on my downtube. This picture shows it mounted on the top tube. You can also mount it on the handlebars. FYI, this is the road bike version. There is a mountain bike version that is entirely different and is for the bar end only.

Wow, pretty cool. And two versions (Sprintech and Citytech) for different bike styles. Those for the road bikes look great since they're useful in terms of safety AND look like they have very good aerodynamics. They Citytech ones would be candidates to replace my current mirrors...(wish I had known about these earlier... ;) )

Their is also an "Italian" mirror that looks like the Sprintech. It appears to fit flush with the bar (more aerodynamic?) and does not adjust like the Sprintech and is more expensive. I have no experience with it so I cannot compare the two.

I use Third Eye mounted on one helmet and Blackburn mirror on another helmet. I like both of them and never had problems. I can't ride without mirrors as I feel unsafe to do so. I have tried the handlebar and eyeglass mirrors and didn't seem comfortable with both of them. You lose sight of your rear when you turn the handlebar and the eyeglass design vibrates and does not hold well as it pops out of the frame at times.

I have the "italian" mirror that dekindy refers to as do many of my friends and we all like it very much. I can see in it regardless of where my hands are on the handlebar or aerobar. The only time I can't use it is when standing.

That said, the Sprintech looks very good as you don't have to unwrap your bar tape to install it and can adjust it once it's installed.

I was thinking that the Sprintech adjustability feature was just nice to have. But today I was noticing that some people have their handlebar end pointing down and that the Italian mirror may not work. Good thought. I guess I lucked out since the LBS that had them only had the Sprintech and I did not have to make a decision on which to choose.

I have a sprintech and like it very much. Comes in real handy when turning.

Oh, yeah, I forgot one other good thing about mirrors. If little kids see your bike and see that it has mirrors on it, they like to touch the mirrors and play with them and put lots of finger prints on them and, if adjustable, they like to bend them out of position. And while they're at it they'll check your shifters to see if they work while the bike is standing still (even though that has nothing to do with the mirrors).

Kids...gotta love 'em. ;)

The Italian Road Bike Mirror will work fine even with a downward pointing bar end.

It is an awesome product, very stealthy, and it works great.
