My parents always tried to afford new jeans for us three kids on a state employee's salary each school year. And, yes, we sometimes went to GoodWill. And I wore what I thought, in my childish ignorance (and now see in my adult clarity as perfectly logical) were pretty cool clothes.... <shrug> In hindsight, from a child's view, not, but they were clean, and they were whole..... And nothing to be ashamed of....
It's seems it's become more about puttin' one's kids in clothes that satisify the (parents') (one's) needs than those of one's kids' actual needs. These will, sometimes, conflict, but, goin' with the parents' 'tudes, and pocket, never seemed to have really hurt VV.<shrug> Is that completely due to VV personality, or is VV's strong and self-supporting personality due to having been "deprived" of the latest "jeans" style?
<shrug>
Parents today just have to learn that very fine distinction between bein' "best buds" and bein' "parents," as my parents somehow knew, much to my immediate regret, but which I came to appreciate later, as I got older....
Or did I miss the point of this post altogether? :eek: Always quite possible, given my state of emotionally-recoverin' state of mind... :o
:(
Meh. Maybe I'm just two or three sheets too much in the wind to expect than anyone here will take me seriously. And, if so, y'all will have blown me off already and will had have some fun with this thread. ;)

going for the complete threadjack here.
I agree with what you are saying. I never had the latest and best stuff growin up but my parents always put me and my sis as priority, often denying themselves comforts they could have had to stretch the budget in every which way possible. I wouldn't have it any other. I appreciate them more and more as I get older and that I am a few continents away.
Vega you doin ok? Sounds like you need some cheer. ))))))hugs((((((( and a glass of Cabernet savignon (the last one really, I gotta get to work tomorrow)
Vega, insightful as always. I have to be careful and pull the brake on buying for my kids, the wife is the same way. That said, this thread was part of the rash/spate/unfortunate occurance of jean/gene/kids threads of yesterday and today.
You answer was valid and lucid and scored well, garnering you a second place on the score card. If you had mentioned stella and/or goiters, you would easily have taken first place.
