is there any type of controlled bmx riding besides dirt races, that are legal, and of popularity?
yeah, local contests all the way up the X Games.

My town is bike friendly (road bike) but it lacks anything BMX.

Same situation as fuzzybox, we have nothing BMX here.
organize something. Start by asking places like the Y to sponsor. There are so many resources on the internet to help you along the way.

ya
I started a cycling club at my school-I'd like to be able to open up to the bmx population
but it seems all illegal(skateparks) and out of reach (dirt riding)
any ideas?

Not enough people in this town really care whether there are clubs or not, I don't. I don't need a club to go riding, I call up some friends and if they want to ride, we ride, if not, then I just ride.
Closest thing to a 'club' we have is usually weeknights in october around 6:00 is a few local BMX riders take over the downtown skatepark.
that seems close enough.
our skateshop has "BMX Thursdays" at a pretty nice indoor park.
But our city park, with a big bowl has a huge "NO BIKES" sign hanging up.

so what I'm getting out of this
is that
bmx is...
-skateparks(illegal)+dirt trails(isn;t that mountain biking)

what would be the ideal condition for a bmx rider
ex:bmx bowl?... what is the intention of a bmx rider?

BMX Trails=Dirt Jumps.
Ideal condition? A place where we can progress and have fun.
Intention of a BMX rider? Have fun, progress and get better.

There was something in the paper about the Y and BMX saying the trannies aren't made for bikes so they're liability won't cover it.
