United Kingdom - London Bike Rentals

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I will be in London for work shortly. I may be transferring there permanently. Can anyone recommend a good bike shop where I can rent a good road bike. Also, is London cycle friendly? How are the roads? Traffic/drivers?

Sorry about this late reply, I only just read your post. The traffic is dense and the streets narrow, so there's a lot of weaving and having to look around constantly. but you get used to it. Deoends what the conditions are where you come from. The following may help with rental, but the trouble is for bikers who live here, they never need to rent, so that they can't offer much advice. However I found the following: Rental. Bike Park: 020 7430 0083 Cycle Logical: 020 7700 6611 De Ver Cycles: 020 8679 6197 London Bicycle Tour Companie: 020 7928 6838 . I can also highly recommend deVer as they are main London Colnago agents, and I have used them frequently and found them very helpful. I'm not sure about their renting though. Good Luck, phantazy
Watch out for black taxi's. They don't feel pity or remorse and they absolutely will not stop.. Ever.
Seriously.

Hi,
Depending on the rental cos ti would recommend purchasing a second hand bike from ebay or Gumtree (beware of scammers on Gumtree, see before you pay). You can pickup a vintage Peugeut for £100.

Hi chaps,
Um, sorry but Phantazy is completely wrong. I set up HUBJUB seven years ago: we're a mail-order business specialising in fixed gear parts, have never rented bikes at any time, and we're based on the south coast, a couple of hours' drive from London. I know some of the dealers listed here, and, although they're London-based, I'm fairly certain that they're not into rentals, at least, not of conventional bicycles. I'd suggest you all do your own Googling if you want to find someone in London who *does* rent bikes.
Best, Will / HUBJUB

The London Bike Hire Scheme, (http://www.tfl.gov.uk/roadusers/cycling/12444.aspx) now logo'd by Barclays starts up in July.
Otherwise, bring a Downtube Nova folder (http://www.downtube.com/product541.html) with you, use it throughout your stay, and sell it to me for what you paid on the last day of your stay. I'll pick up you and the bike, pay you cash in dollars, and take you to the airport.
The best offer yet? :)
