the program has been pretty much set for this, and it's finally happening. so excited.
soliciting some last minute info. final program will be released at registration, as decided upon by RLR board members. thought i might post this question to you all, what events (i.e. match sprint, chariot, points, devil, snowball etc.) would you want to ride at a grass track event?
any input welcome.
flyer here, registration time may change, depending on if we get a certain sponsor on board; more time for recovery from saturday night.

Are you singling me out because I don't check rides/races or the regional boards? :D
I'm kind of confused about what the race is though. We'll be riding on grass?

grass track never died, people in north america just stopped caring. still widely run in scotland, england, wales, denmark, south africa, australia, and others. particularly strong contingent for the juniors.

sprinting on predictable pavement is old hat. grass has that air of mystery.

Grass track sounds fun... running track doesn't. Still someone should adjust their date.

With that, we're both not going.

i'm guessing some cyclo-cross tires would be best suited for this event for peoples rigs (bikes) then.
just being inquisitive

Running track (now with broken glass!) is vaguely terrifying in my experience. 400m is really too small for bikes without banking.

Well now I'M not going! I can't feasibly get to the races anyway, so worry not mr. Blickblocks.

+1 I was wondering this also.
Grass track sounds very interesting. How is the track constructed? Banking?

grass tracks for the most part are not banked. they mostly (though not all) are flat. part of the fun of grass track racing is that you do typically fast, crowded events on a non-banked course. turns tend to be pretty rough and tumble; slow down and watch those elbows!
also, as per international grass track rules, the only breaks on the field will be coming from the boombox.
cyclocross tires are a good start, the real skill lies in choosing a gear.
hey, blockblickz, why aren't you going? art school term paper? dog ate your bike? west 65th give you the heebie-jeebies?

Humour.
word! y'all take graying interlopers from the south? a good excuse to visit the folks if i've ever seen one.
and 'blocks...65th & lorain was not where i'd want to find myself either (back in the day when i actually know what the area was like), humor or not.
i haven't checked the website for the rules. i'm assuming fixed-gear is required? otherwise i'm bringing a winter mtb w/studded tires...

you know, like "1, 2, 3, hit it." no brakes, but plenty of breaks.

that is beautiful.
i was talking to an old timer who used to race grass track in central ohio, and he said their "top" events were held at private country clubs on golf courses!

I so totally miss grass track racing. Nothing like some cyclocross sew-ups, some rain, and a flat unbanked oval grass course. Beyond fun.
