I just hit the scales at less than 300 pounds for the first time in ten years. I am riding an average six miles per day (yeah, I know it doesn't compare to century rides, but I only started a couple of months ago), I can walk up stairs without breathing heavy, and I am looking at new clothes. I plan to break the 100 pound loss barrier in the next year, and maybe I will ride in one of the longer rides next summer or fall.
The last time I weighed less than 240, Lyndon Johnson was in the White House and gas was 25 cents per gallon.
I know that 37 pounds may not seem like a lot to some, but I am really happy about it.
I have this forum to thank for so much of my progress because of all the support and inspiration.
So--thanks to all of you--this is really getting to be fun.

Great Job!!!!!... To any one that would say 37 pounds isn't a lot: tell them to just carry a twenty pound bag of kitty litter on thier shoulders all day, and see if thier thoughts don't change.:D
Best of luck to you... and keep up the great work.:)

Losing 37 lbs is a tremendous accomplishment!
Congratulations, and keep up the good work!
Thanks again, everyone, for all the support--
This really is enjoyable and not nearly as much work as I once thought. The bicycle makes it fun for me to lose weight, and my diet is paying off as well. This is a coordinated attack on several levels, but again, this forum is a major key in my new health regimen.

Nice job on the weight loss telrad ... thats about the equivalent of a 3 year old child! Doesn't it feel just fantastic to climb the stairs without huffing and puffing? And congrats on reaching your goal of <300, well done.
That is terrific! Small steps, big results. You're doing great - thanks for this post. Stories like this help me stay motivated!
You'll be knocking out centurys in no time. Keep up the good work.

37 lbs is amazing, as is increasing your fitness so that you're not winded at every turn! Keep it up!
Awesome accomplishment! Unfortunately, I need to kick you out of Club-Uber
That's awesome telrad! Keep up the good work. I'd be in tears if I could lose that much weight.

That's awesome. Keep up the hard work.
At our weight watchers meeting that my wife and I attend they have old
paint buckets filled with rocks. One is marked 10 pounds, another is marked
20 pounds and it's amazing how heavy they really are together.
Between the two of us we've lost > 200 pounds collectively.
We could not do what we do on the bikes today when we started out.

you say 37 pounds isnt much. actually anything over 20 is awesome. i have always been near the 300 mark on the south side but at my lowest this summer i was down to 260 and i have settled at 270 but im still getting stronger. keep going ... all my friends could only dream of losing what you did. they are a bit motivation deficient.... which seems to be as contagious as the common cold lol. keep up the good work.

Great job man!! Keep on rockin!
update--
I hit a new benchmark yesterday. After several months of hard work, I have officially (on the very strict scales at the doctor's office) hit a total of 55 pounds lost.
I can really believe that I will make the 100 pound loss this year, and I again want to thank everyone for all the support. Bicycling has given me a new lifestyle, and I am starting my 57th year (as of Sunday) with a new outlook on life. My next goal is to weigh the same on my wedding anniversary as I did 30 years ago, and I am about 34 pounds away from that.
My Trek toward a new life is succeeding. (Pardon the Pun).
Thanks, everyone!

I just hit the scales at less than 300 pounds for the first time in ten years. I plan to break the 100 pound loss barrier in the next year, and maybe I will ride in one of the longer rides next summer or fall.
37 pounds is awesome! That's huge! However, I would be just as happy with your gains in fitness. Being able to walk up stairs without huffing and puffing too much is big! You're right, six miles isn't much of a ride to some people, but to lots of people it would be too far to contemplate. I think the key to longer distances is to build up to them slowly. Try 10 miles. When that gets to be no big deal try 15. You'll find what your comfort zone is, but if you never get past 6 miles, don't fret. Six miles a day will make a huge difference in your fitness level. You sound like you've already experienced that.
Great work!!! Keep posting as some of us need to be reminded that we aren't the only ones fighting this battle.
I'll bet your doctor is proud of you.

I am 3 pounds behind you... hoping to make it there by my next weigh-in on Tuesday... started training for a sprint triathlon... I think I've been below 300 in the last 10 years... but not any time in the last 5...
KEEP IT UP!
EDIT... wow... just looked at the dates on this tread... Ok... so I am more than 3 pounds behind you... but hey... good job on the 55lb drop :)
