Howdy,

I'm heading to Fredericksburg on Sunday to ride the Cannonball Century (http://www.bikefred.com/CBC/cbc.html). It's going to be my first ever century ride, so I'll be the slow one. Fuji Cross with skinny tires, blue & white jersey, red helmet and camel-back (I'm so fashion conscious...ha!)

I did not ride this year with a century in mind; my job travel has gotten in the way of enough consistent training rides the past several years so I just didn't worry about it this year. But, I ended up only going out of town for two weeks from early May to late August. By the first week in September I had done several 50, 60 and a 70 mile ride. Figured this would be a good time to go for 100.

Turned out I spent the last two weeks in Phoenix (lots of hiking, no biking) but did 55 this past Sunday and felt great so I'm just doing some light rides this week and plan on drinking and eating well on Sunday.

(Cross posting in Road forum....hope that's ok)

Hiya,

I'll be there! This will be my 6th century ride this summer. Two of them were self-supported solos, and four were organized rides. I've never ridden a century before this year, so I was pretty worried I wouldn't be able to do it. I rode the first one on my own. The hardest one I've done was the Reston Bike Club century in late August, because of all the hills. The easiest one was last week, at the Amish 100 in Southern Maryland.

Before the first one, I had done 75 miles several times, as well as many 50 and 60 mile rides. 100 isn't really any harder than those. You just take one extra break, and do one extra leg. The key is to eat and drink enough, as well as keeping your electrolytes topped off if it's a sweaty day. Take it easy at first, and pace yourself. Then it's just a matter of time :)

Looks like we'll have great weather, too. Have fun!
