I've been offered a 2003 Cannondale XR800 with the following upgrades:

Handlebar was upgraded to Easton EC70
Seatpost is a Cannondale Competition
The wheel were upgraded to Sun ME14A 28 spokes with Cannondale Coda hubs

According to the seller, the bike has been ridden less than 100 miles, and the upgrades were for cosmetic reasons. Obviously, one has to wonder about upgrading a bike and then never riding it.

On the opposite end of the pricing spectrum, I really like the Specialized Tricross (Expert of Comp), but the idea of a nice cyclocross bike for $600 is appealing. I'd prefer if it cost a bit more and had better components, but I haven't seen it yet.

Any thoughts on pricing if the lack of mileage is true? Is this a great deal (doubtful), a good deal, or a nothing special/bad deal?

I was happy with my 2001 XR800 before it got run over. I think $600 for a 2003 with that few miles is not unreasonable.
