I will be riding in the Tejas 500, which is a 500 mile race at The Texas Time Trials (http://www.tt24tt.com/), this coming Friday and Saturday. I'm riding as part of a four man recumbent relay team, alternating laps around a 20 mile course. I am the oldest (and slowest) on the team. There is around 1000 feet of climbing in each lap, so it's not a very recumbent friendly course. But, John Schlitter is riding the 500 mile race solo on a recumbent, so I guess I can't whine too loudly about my 120 miles.

We are doing the 36 hour start (there are different start time options for this race), so we'll be starting at 6:00 am Friday morning. We hope to finish in a lot less than 36 hours. There seems to be a good possibility that the team may place well (as of this morning, we were the only four man recumbent team entered).

Thursday evening, I'll be going down to set up camp at the Cleburne State Park, which is right on the race course. I'm taking my laptop with the intention of tethering my cell phone to it to get online, so I may be able to give a report or two from the race, but there is pretty spotty cell phone coverage in that area, so I may be offline until I get back home late Saturday evening. Wish me luck.

And he only signed up f/36 hrs.

I used to see him at the Hottern Hell 100--he usually won.

He was always at the Plano Cycling booth--really nice guy. But so is Fred Markham. Both guys are a credit to the companies that they represent and where they are owners.

Well, the event turned into a grand adventure. My team finished the 500 miles in 25 hours and 30 minutes, which is the second fastest time any four man team has had on the course. I won't post all the sordid details here, but those who would like read my report and others on it can read this thread (http://spinnerbaker.com/rbent/YaBB.pl?num=1190998933) and this one (http://spinnerbaker.com/rbent/YaBB.pl?num=1191209323) on the rbent forum. below is a photo of the team: me, Paul, Greg, and Steve. Photos of the event that my wife took are on my photobucket album (http://s181.photobucket.com/albums/x5/Bud_Bent/2007%20TTTT/), and photos that teammate Paul took are on his photobucket album (http://s53.photobucket.com/albums/g73/flyinglazboy/TTTT%202007/).

That's an outstanding accomplishment!

I viewed some of the pix and read some threads. Sounds like it was a lot of fun. Well done.
