G'day guys,
I hope I'm putting this in the right forum. San Francisco looks more like the North end than the South on a map.
Anyway, I'm going to be in SF in January 2008 for a wedding and I thought it'd be a good opportunity for me to pick up some little bike things that I'd usually have to have posted out to Australia at great expense - like Powergrips and a bike-mounted beer opener and similar.
I'm staying in Glen Park (?) and hoping someone can recommend me a bike shop (or shops) in the vicinity that I should visit.
Cheers!
Deej
You have a lot of shops to choose from. If you Google san francisco bike shops it will show you a map withthe locations along with names and addresses. Take your pick, perhaps someone else will give specific recommendations near where you are going to be

And don't EVER confuse San Francisco with Southern California!
Have a nice trip.

There isn't any bike shops in the Glen Park area but here are some you may try.
Amerian Cyclery on the corner of Stanyan and Fredrick. There is another on Stanyan about 3 blocks away but I don't remember the name.
Performance bike on Brannan St. between 5th st. and 6th st.
REI on Brannan between 8th st. and 9th st.
Mikes Bike on Howard st. between 8th st. and 9th st.
Enjoy your stay in SF.
BTW, January is our raining season, bring your rain gear.

The best prices are still on the Internet. Just e-shop from Oz and have them shipped to whereever you're staying in SF. That's getting the best of both worlds.

Y'know, that's a really good idea. I might give that a go.
Cheers!

I like Valencia Cyclery. If you were to take the Bart (our Bay Area train system) from where you are staying (glen park) it would be a 5 minute ride to within blocks of the shop. The people there are extremely friendly. Good luck.

Deej, g'day mate. As an Aussie in Silicon Valley, I can tell you the big bike shops down here are similar to home in what they stock, there is just much more stock as the shops are generally much larger and prices are a lot cheaper. In the non-chain shops, you have cyclists advising you and there maybe more than just Giant / Trek / Felt / Bianchi bikes. Just be aware mail order may not be taxed but they may only deliver in the US to a US credit card holder and buying in the store adds around 8% to the prices.
