I Rode a 4 Wheel Bike Today!

(I don't have a clue how the title got written 3 times)

The missus and I took the train into San Diego today, and then the ferry to Coronado Island (well, almost an island).

We wanted to rent bikes, but the very lackadaisical(sp?) bike attendant informed us that the bike path was only 1/4 mile long. Wrong. But we then decided to rent a 4 wheeled Surrey and pedal around a bit.

It turned out that the bike path went quite a ways longer, and it connected to the Silver Strand, linking Coronado to Imperial Beach. However, we didn't feel like driving that Surrey more than about 4 miles total.

I learned that pedaling a Surrey is a lot of work, and uses different muscles, due to the seat height. I also learned that a Surrey with a fringe on top creates a lot of wind resistance in a headwind. Wow! But we got back just fine, and I had a pretty good workout for a short ride.

Welcome back to San Diego, Denver. I have difficulty steering non-leaning 3- or 4-wheeled human-powered vehicles, because I have to fight my strongly ingrained lean-and-turn instinct.
