Greetings So Cal BFers -

We're sad to report that it's true, the offices of Challenged Athletes Foundation in San Diego suffered catastrophic losses last weekend caused by an electrical fire; including hundreds of dollars worth of merchandise earmarked for next months San Diego Triathlon Challenge. The office needs extensive repairs and the staff will need a temporary home for at least six weeks.

CAF is the official charity of Planet Ultra. We've donated over $26,000 this year - and hoped to do so much more. Proceeds from our Solvang's Finest Century will be donated to CAF, as well as entry fees from our Christmas Century.

But they need help NOW!!! So we're passing the hat...

If you'd like to join Planet Ultra and pitch in during CAFs hour of need, feel free to make a donation, large or small. We'll hand deliver all donations when we meet with our CAF friends the first week of October.

Thanks in advance for your generosity.

Planet Ultra, 26500 W. Agoura Rd. #102-665, Calabasas, CA 91302.

not to sound heartless, but did they not have insurance?

Well... regardless of how your email "sounds" -

I imagine, and hope, that they did...

But we all KNOW that insurance never covers everything -
especially the donations which may have been in the office waiting to be deposited on Monday.
Further, the money should be spent on the athletes, not on deductibles and other things that insurance doesn't cover.

Regardless, CAF is a wonderful cause -
and an unfortunate situation such as this fire should make little difference to those who would be generous to those with challenges anyway.

The other thing to consider is that there were a LOT of donated supplies for the upcoming San Diego Triathlon Challenge that were destroyed by the fire. Not sure that would be covered, but the big problem is timing - they NEED to have those supplies for this race, which is the CAF's biggest fundraiser of the year.
