View Full Version : Riding Through Camp Pendleton
We are traveling to SD from NorCal on Saturday for some riding. Can one ride through Camp Pendleton starting in Oceanside to San Clemente? Also, are there any club rides starting in near La Jolla going North along the coast on Sunday?

Yes, you can ride through Camp Pendleton, but you need to make sure you have photo ID with you to get through the gate. If you have no photo ID, you can ride that section of I5, but it's much more pleasant going through the base :)

SDBC has a Sunday ride cruising at lower 20 mph on flats, but not a true coastal ride. Starts off near coastal in La Jolla, goes northbound somewhere with hills, then head westbound into Solena Beach and down coastal to the start. It rolls at 8:30am in front of a UC Cyclery bike store; and totals a little under 50 miles. I was told the speed is about that of their Saturday "B" ride.
The true coastal part is only about 10 miles and is southbound back to the start.

You'll have to show the MP your drivers license, wear a helmet and ride single file.
Don't run any stop signs or lights on the base.
If you return south, there is a little parking lot before the Las Pulgas gate. Be careful when you exit that lot.

And get to the base before 5 pm. Sometimes they close it off then.
Thanks for the info. We will be out for a coast ride this morning from LJ to Carlsbad.
