I have a Light and Motion Li-Ion battery which is not overly large, but I find when I mount it on the seat tube, I lose the use of one of my water bottle cages. Can't really use the seat post due to the seat bag and the top tube has the cable issue to consider. Anyone have other suggestions?
I hang my Dinotte battery pack from the top tube by using the velcro straps. the cables aren't really impeded at all. The other options are a bento box, attach the battery to the stem or handlebars. FWIW, I had a little more steering twitchiness with the batteries under the stem- seems the weight was affecting handling when riding without hands.

Have you tried routing the strap on the inside of the cables against the frame like the instructions say for mounting the battery on tubes with cables?
I just got a Princetion Tec Swithchback 3 and was skeptical about mounting the battery on the top tube with cables. It worked fine.
Give it a try. From your op it appeared maybe you had not tried it yet.

I'd say use the water bottle cage and get a Camelbak. After all, it's winter and your water bottle will freeze anyway.
