Classic & Vintage - dual pivot brakes

I have a set of Weinmann "Symetric" calipers which seem to be dual pivot. Then I learned that Altenberger produced d-p`s back in the `60`s. Is that the earliest for this brake? Can anyone post a pic of the Alt.`s? What do you know, and when did you know it?

Seriously, I am somewhat familiar with the altenbergers. I remember their dual-pivot design(nothing new under the sun is there-anatomic cut out saddles pre-date ww1).

They were an economy type brake with relatively cheap stampings and were found on entry level bike boom bikes. Very soft through the lever.

Shimano has beefed up the design quite significantly with modern manufacturing techniques available. Campagnolo has followed suit.

I still don't think I need that much more braking than a single pivot though and still prefer their lighter weight.

Only Altenbergers I've experience with are centerpulls on a heavy framed bike boom import called a Del Rimo or something like that. Put it together for my father in law and don't think he's ridden it much.

I like modern dual pivots, like them alot actually. On my otherwise Campy SR Basso I've put on a set of dp Records.

The Altenberger centerpulls of old are a far cry from modern dual-pivot sidepulls. Dual-pivot sidepulls stay centered and therefore can be set up with minimal spread in the open position. This, in turn, permits one to use them with high-leverage (and therefore long-travel) control handles.
