Hey Deb, a couple of cycling folks not on BF are asking about reg fees and what part goes to the Challenged Athletes? They like to know before signing up to do any charity ride. :) Oh, and I did give them the link to the ride, but they would please like clarification...?? Thanks!

We make a large donation to CAF after all costs/expenses associated with the event are paid.

We've already donated over $26,000k this year; some of which is associated with this event. We also donate a minimum $1 per rider to CAF from ALL other Planet Ultra events.

If they have any other questions, please direct them to embassy@planetultra.com
:-)

OK, a little late but I finally mailed off my registration fee (and CAF donation) this morning.

Anyone interested in sharing a hotel room Saturday night... which means a nice dinner in town and a possible pub crawl...? I don't mind getting up at 3am to drive up for this ride, but driving home after that and a century, stinky and dirty, sounds like a drag.

Me, me, me!!! :D You're a blast lady and since I didn't spend on the double and I'm getting some pretty good overtime, I'm happy to split a room and go for dinner. We could even do a ride in the morning if you want before heading back to LA (or forget that....we can stop again at the outlet stores and spend a little more time there!)

I just registered. Now looking for a dive motel for Friday night. It's too far to drive from SD in the morning.

:( Now, that isn't right. Hmmm...what to do, what to do.

Happy, we could just change, come back Saturday, shower and then go out in my area and pub crawl. Sherman Oaks will be more happening than Solvang, I can promise you!

Edit: Oh yeah, and you can shower at my place. :)

Motel 6 in beautiful downtown Buellton. There are two beds so if anyone needs a place to crash Friday night let me know. Ennui loves company.

There's Lake Cachuma off the 154 about 14 miles from Solvang. Also the Rv park in Buellton right off the 101 is Flying Flags Park about 3 miles from Solvang.

Looks like $26 for basic camp site there at Buellton HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

I may be in for this ride! A little getaway to ride in the Solvang area sounds good.:) I just need to pull the trigger and register. I haven't been on the bike too much lately and am a little hesitant. I may need a tow. Any volunteers?

 I was thinking more along the lines of a few beers after the ride. For that rate, I'll hook up the rope, not pedal, and enjoy the scenery as you pull me along.:p

I didn't/haven't signed up. How's the difficulty of this compared to say GT/Lite double metric, Cool Breeze, SD Century, or Poway, etc.? Thanks!

I haven't done the SD Century or Poway -
but I've done the GT and the Cool Breeze; and I'd say that the climbing is not any more difficult than either of those; but the scenery is way better, and way less traffic.

The full century has four climbs: Foxen Canyon and Santa Rosa Road, which are really "rollers," Harris Grade (4 miles - but rolls gently for the first 2 - comparable to Old Topanga from the Mulholland side), and Drum Canyon (3 miles with some 8-10% pitches, but mostly 5-6%).

Seeing I'll just be back from igloo land 2 days before, I don't think I'll be able to get there Friday night in time for dinner.

See you all on the 10th! :D

Did the Prelude on Saturday.....was freezing to start somewhere near 48-50 I would think...
But went with no windbreaker, and light arm wamers and knee warmers....was a pretty cold for the first few miles...but warmed up climbing Ballard Cyn....stripped the warmers off at about 18 miles...then it was nice the rest of the day....

Of course the "prelude" was for the other century, in March I believe. Anyway, I forgot that the prelude was last weekend and ended up riding through it with our club on a ride around the county. I wonder if you saw us (there were 10 of us) on 154 or Foxen?

Turns out that we have a room for one more volunteer for this weekend's Solvang's Finest Century. What this means is, if you want to come out and cheer on your BF friends, and support Challenged Athletes Foundation, we'll treat you to two nights at the Royal Copenhagen Inn, pay your fuel costs, give you a cool t-shirt, water bottle and post-ride meal, and you'll get a ride credit to be used for any single day event in 2008 (except Angeles Crest or THIS ride next year).

Interest folks should email Planet Ultra directly.

PS
It has to be a guy. The rooms are double occupancy, and the other volunteer is male.

Weather report for Saturday:
Partly cloudy. Patchy fog during the late night through morning hours. Lows in the 40s to around 50. Highs in the mid 60s to lower 70s.

Looks like a 30° temp spread. Wondering if I should wear my Assos bib knickers or just get by with shorts and knee warmers.

Karen, I think start line at 7am is great.:) I'm thinking of wearing tights as it may be cold enough for them.

Probably should go with the bib knickers, but the Lady Assos chamois is not my favorite for long rides (prefer my LGs or Giordana). Decisions....

I don't need to know what you stick through your leg hole. I can't understand how you void the bladder on long rides with those bibs. Unless...you pee standing? :p

Full zip jerseys. Peel it off and hang it on a hook or a rock. It's not too difficult. I've sworn off regular shorts, except for very short rides.
