If you're close, you should just get in touch with Tony when the frames come in. After the last group buy, he had a handful of frames left over, and I bet if you were able to show up at his door with cash, you could walk away with a frame and fork for fairly cheap.

This might have been better to know before orders closed... I thought it had been confirmed that the black was glossy in some previous post? I ordered a 54cm in orange, flat black would have made it a much tougher choice... Flat orange would rock...

Has anyone gotten through to IRO recently? I've sent emails and left voicemail (in regard to a problem with my deposit transaction) and gotten nothing in reply.

Standard operating procedure. Rest assured, if it's important to Tony he'll e-mail you back.

Try calling, it's the most effective way to get in touch with them.

Yes you missed the boat. No there is not going to be another one here in the forseeable future.

I'd see a doctor if I were you. I've seen the type of people you let stay in your extra bedroom!

on the "Is it flat orange?" question. (My guess is, "Um...how often do you ever see a stock flat-brightcolor?")

Newb question incoming...

Site says rear dropouts will easily take 130mm hubs or 135mm. If i put 135's on (probably fixed/free), what kind of chainline will I have? Will I have to change up the bottom bracket or anything?

fluxgame
12-12-07, 01:29 PM
Pretty much any track hub you find will have more or less the same shell width and provide a 42mm chainline. To get 130 or 135 you're just adding spacers inside of the outer locknuts.

Any ETA for delivery yet? :) 3 month mark is slowly drawing near... And i gotta make sure i've got enough $$$ to pay the remaining balance and shipping. :D

I haven't heard anything yet, but I'm getting anxious. I have all the parts I need for it except tires.

If anyone bought a 60 cm and is having second thoughts, PM me. I missed out on the group buy. Don't care about the color. Sent Tony an email asking about leftovers but I'm not expecting a response due to the above issues with Tony and email

Seatpost will be 27.2mm.

Thanks. Does that mean that the collar, by default, is 30.0?

Most likely. On my other IRO i used a 30mm clamp.

As a current Rob Roy owner I'll confirm that it is a 27.2mm seatpost requiring a 30mm clamp. I've got a blue one in 54cm and it's just a bit small on me so I'm moving up to the 56cm in green. Can't wait to see 'em!

Anybody decide on what rims to use? I'm a Velocity Deep-V junkie at heart (because of the pretty colorZ) :D but i'm also thinking of possibly using Dyad rims instead... I do plan on starting CX racing next year. Tires will of course be somewhere in the 30-35mm range.

Mavic CXP 33 is the most underrated rim out there.

I had Dyads on my old Cross Check and they were great! Super strong...
I am thinking of finding an old set of strong road wheels with a single speed spacer kit. I ride my other IRO fixed all the time, so this one may be dedicated freewheel.

It appears the velocity aeroheads are nearly as light as the open pro's and they cost on average about $20 less.

+1 to that. I used CXP 33 rims with Harris Cyclery hubs for my first IRO GB frame and really like them.

I've been reading and I didn't realize the velocity's don't use eyelets. I read good things about campy montreal's but can't find them anywhere.

TimJ
12-28-07, 11:33 PM
So I found the Sun me-14a rim, which is semi-aero, has eyelets, 421 stated grams, and is only $48.

Anyone ever use these?

I got a pair from Ben's Cycles on ebay for $65 and built them up on Nashbar track hubs with Sapim double butted spokes. I'll be running them on my Rob Roy whenever it comes in. I'm very happy with them.

You should know that they're single eyelets, instead of doubles like on Mavic OPs, but that wasn't a problem for me when building them up.

Very good value for money rim I think.

That's almost exactly my plan, except I'm gonna use a 28 hole front hub, either a 105 or ultegra, saving like 100 grams or so.

I've never used that specific rim, but I've built wheels with Sun CR18 rims. In my experience, Sun rims are plenty strong, but they just aren't manufactured with the same standards of Mavic or other high end rims. I've built numerous wheels with several brands of rim and have never had trouble achieving a round and true wheel with equal spoke tension, except for the Suns, which always seem to end up with a slight wobble and hop that I just can't seem to get rid off and still maintain equal tension.

Please forgive the ignorant question, but why do you need to braze/weld to install a internal hub?

I've got a 56 in orange on the way. Anyone have a 58 in orange on the way that they'd be interested in trading?

Called about delivery just now, they said that they are expecting know something around the end of the week and they will be posting the ETA at that time. Still waiting patiently but going insane wishing I had just bought the frame in September. Guess I wouldn't be getting the custom orange if that was the case though... Oh, Donkey Wagons!

Mine will be a temporary build b/c I am thinking about getting a custom cross frame built if this works out:

Campy Carbon Record Levers
TRP CR950 cantis
Custom built ZTR355 29er rims on Am Classic Micro Ft and Tune Rear with black CX Ray spokes and Red nipples
Thompson Post and Stem X4 in Black
FSA K-Force Light compact crankset with KCNC Red bolts
Red Nokon Brake Cables
Red Profile Bar Tape
Red Acros Headset

Just need the dang frame, and a day of labor.

It just occurred to me last night that I'm not entirely sure if my frame will fit. I'm 5'4" and I ordered the 52cm (the smallest size IRO offers). I can usually get away with a 52cm, but my other cross bike is a 50, and I felt like it was too large racing this year. So there might be an extra 52cm orange available in a few weeks.
