I don't see how adding to the problem is going to make it any better. BUT calling attention to someone selling bikes for 200% above retail could go a long way.
It seems to be working just fine here. ;)

Getting people on bikes by sliding them isn't my idea of a good bicycling community.

No one is saying that this guy should be jailed or anything. In fact, all the critics here have taken great care to make clear that they understand it's well within his right to sell his crap at whatever price he sees fit.
Given that, I don't see why this person shouldn't be subject to criticism for his actions, which many here deem to be sketchy.

If Nomco was selling Iro's repainted and badged as Nomco bikes, then would it be OK? Or would that be more heinous?
I fail to see what Nomco is doing any different than any other retailer of Iro bikes or what Iro is doing itself--buying bike frames at a lower price and selling them at a higher price. If anyone is interested in doing the bicycling community a service, how 'bout they buy three of every size in every color and hang onto them until people want to pay no more than what they originally paid?
Maybe the dood was even helping Iro out by buying overstock, or as someone else mentioned, scratched and dinged bikes.
Maybe everyone's thinking that their super-special group buy bikes aren't really all that special if they're being offered to the stinky masses at any price?
If Nomco's order meant that someone who tried to get a group buy bike while the order window was open didn't, then yah, I might have the barest of problems with it. But if not, who did Nomco hurt by paying (group buy) retail to Iro for some frames? If anything, Iro probably made a bit more cash on the deal, so Nomco was supporting that company. And if Iro had a problem with it, I bet it would be obvious by now...

You're free to sell bikes for any ammount you choose just as we are free to warn others that the prices are sketchy.
BTW... Bikedirect "gets people on bikes". This sh!t just rips them off.

Funny I how I rarely see people complain about the ripoff of boutique parts and NJS crap. What a joke, 'sketchy' prices; this who BS FG subculture is based on sketchy prices for fashion items.
The fad will be over soon enough and the kids will be into something different, along with folks who see them crap.

I started racing track in 1986 and have never owned ANYTHING with an nJs stamp on it. I buy most of the parts I don't get through the shop I race for from Performance, so boutique isn't a concept I'm down with.
I'm sure whomever is selling this sh!t will move onto the next scam before long. It will be nice to have one less scum b@g in cycling.

You're right, all bikes should cost $99 and come from Wal-Mart. I don't see what's so different about your $1000 bicycle. It rolls, doesn't it?

Huh? I think there is a place for high end parts, it's just that for me it's not an issue of fashion. I don't think Phil hubs will make any difference to my daily commute as many in the FG forum seem to think.

Isn't this great? Almost no one agrees!
Supply and demand, baby. Some have the money and are willing to pay, for whatever reason...some don't. If some are willing to pay, others charge! Economics 101.
We're all just stubborn asses who weren't willing or weren't able to pay the higher prices.
I like to look good, too. In other words, I wear nice dress shoes to work...did I pay $280 for them? Trust me, if I had the cashola I would have, because walking in to Nordstroms and slappin' down the plastic for some dead cow to put on my feet is tons easier than scouring the 'net for a comprable-looking pair and then living worried that someone will see my impersonation-dead-cow slippers and call me out or hold it against me.
Whatever, supply and demand!

I mis-typed - I meant to say that there's no reason they should not be subject to criticism. I actually edited the post a few minutes after I wrote it to clarify my language, but obviously I didn't do a very good job. My point is that just because you may feel that what they're doing is above-board, doesn't mean that they should be immune from criticism.
You might try being diplomatic before you start calling someone (other than yourself) an "arrogant prick."

Nomco is a business like any other and can be criticized as much as any of them. If I was going to hit on them, however, it would be specifically their marketing and publicity not taking into account a negative reaction of someone reselling what was thought to be a very exclusive, direct to consumer run of frames.
Cheer up. You got your RR at wholesale pricing.
"Delivery 1st week of March" means your frame is in a box, in a container, on a boat, in the middle of the Pacific. Or will be within a week or so.

I'm looking to get out of the group buy for a 60cm, black frame. As stated in a different thread, it should fit more like a 58cm because of the short top tube.
I originally entered into the group buy thinking that this was going to be here in time for the worst of winter... when the order was delayed, I got antsy and bought a different frame.

I'm getting pretty stoked and I've almost got all my parts together. I figured I'd throw up my parts list on here and see if anyone has any suggestions for me. I was hoping to get some advice on brakes. These are all the parts I've already got:
Brake Levers - Nashbar Aero
Handlebars - Easton EA70 42cm
Stem - Easton EA70
Seatpost - Easton EA70
Saddle - Fizik Randone
Crank - Campagnolo Athena 165
BB - Shimano UN73 107mm
Rims - Sun ME14A
Hubs - Nashbar track
Spokes - Sapim Race db
Cog - EAI
Tires - Conti Gatorskins 25c / WTB Terrainasaurus 32c
I'm not too worried about the Campy crank with Shimano BB, as I'm running them on another bike right now with no problems.
Not sure what to do about brakes though. I've got the Nashbar levers lying around. I was thinking of going with Tektro Oryx cantilevers, which are around 30 bucks on ebay. For 15-30 dollars more I could look at Avid Shorty 4's or 6's, or Cane Creek SCX-5's. Is it worth it? Are all the cheaper low profile canti's about the same performance wise?

i don't think that there's any noticeable difference between the micro-adjustable sub-$50 cantis, so i'm a big fan of the oryx. as with all cheap cantis, replace the pads with some koolstops (or whatever you favor) and you'll be golden.

If I'm not mistaken the Cane Creek SCX-5 and the Tektro Onyx are the same brake.

Campy and Shimano use different tapers for their cranks and BB. Have you factored this in?

I was going to say something about this; just my own experience. I had a Suntour Superbe Pro crank (ISO) on a Shimano BB (JIS). It made a terrible creaking when I was sprinting or climbing. I finally figured out that the crank wasn't seated all the way down on the spindle. I got a Campy Veloce BB and it's been perfect ever since.
But you say your experience has been fine, so I hope that will still work out for you.

Thanks for the information everybody. I ended up going with Tektro C720s for $36 on ebay. I guess the old school looks were worth $6 to me. :)
As far as the ISO crank on a JIS bottom bracket goes, it's not something I would recommend to anyone, but it's worked for me so far. I guess when I swap the parts over I'll get a chance to inspect the cranks and see if I'm doing any damage to them, but it feels solid and my chainline looks good.
Does anyone have experience with the IRO headset? Not much information on their site. Maybe a Cane Creek S-1 would be a better bet at that price?
Thanks again.

I don't know what the Oryx come with, but my Cane Creek SCX-5s came with Kool Stops already installed-- though they weren't the salmon everyone dig so much. One set had gray/silverish "all condition" pads and the other had the regular black type. I had to toe the front pads in a TON to get 'em to stop squealing.
I should also point out that "Oryx" just sounds dorky, and the font looks like it belongs at a ren-fest or something. Ye Olde Cyclo-Cross Jousting.
