I'll supply the tow rope if you supply the tow. :D

EDIT: Vance has to start riding from home, that's the only way we'll get to the lifts at the same time.

Anyone want to ditch work on a Friday and climb GMR?
Call in sick! Use a personal day! Take a well-deserved long weekend!

I'm thinking about Friday, November 2

We can meet for an early start to beat the rush hour traffic (hopefully, its Friday-lite anyway) and maybe have breakfast before the ride. Think of it... no motorcycles or lugers, just like old times. :D

I have that day off already, so I'd be up for it.

How early? I have to drop my son off at school around 7am, so 7:30 or so works.

merider1

Whose?

Mine, of course. Which means, everyone will be headed to the lifts. :D

Super! :D Looks like there's enough interest to start a ride thread and get some details hashed out.

How about a 7:30 meet for an 8:00 roll? We can start/finish at Encanto. Or, we an meet at the base of Baldy, which would mean a 10 mile flat warm up heading to GMR, then a flying finish down Baldy Road. I'll ask my husband to help fill me in on the exact routeslip, if I can't convince him to join us first!

Um...oh, oopsie...can't do 11/2. :o But that just means, you have the men folk all to yourself! :D

I might be able to get away, depends on my work schedule. I've never done this climb, would I be able to turn around if I find myself in over my head? Today I climbed Decker comfortably from Westlake to Mulholland.

I was actually thinking about going down to San Diego that weekend to
visit my sister.
I could do Baldy first, then go..

You could do it....nothing is as steep as Decker...EXCEPT from the Village to the lifts, but
you don't have to go to the lifts.

If I can get the day off, then heck ya I'm in for this. I'm definitely up for big climbs on non Saturdays these days. I'll probably pass on the lifts, but to the village would be good, or maybe this icehouse thing that has cinnamon buns. mmmmm, buns.

Well, shoot. Lotsa interest from really strong climbers.

Looks like I'm bringing up the rear with my red lantern. :o

I still haven't used up my floater holiday this year, so I'm a maybe as well. :)

BTW, how's LA->SD traffic on Friday afternoon on I-5 or I-15?

Have you heard the phrase "we've entered hell"!:p

Times I've done that drive, I really did enter hell.

DaveSANYYZ, you're welcome to hang at my place in the afternoon. Maybe we can go to Curry House for dinner. Traffic should be less hellish after that. :)

It's about time there's a ride on one of my regular days off. I've never ridden GMR so count me in.

I have alternate Friday's off, but not this particular Friday. However I do have some vacation days to use. Hopefully my knee will be up to some climbing again by that time (may skip the lifts if there is any question). I'm going to be in the same boat as DaveSANYYZ about driving back on a Friday afternoon, though we will be closer to the 15, which should be much better than the 5.

BUMP!

If GMR is still closed, I am still riding on Friday, November 2. However, the ride will be moved to the Santa Monica Mountains: Latigo, Stunt, Piuma... not sure what the route slip will be yet.

I'm sorry to see GMR closed, but I applaud the Forest Service for doing everything they can to keep the mountain safe. I fanyone can provide GMR updates, it will be appreciated!

GMR is likely closed until the end of fire season, i.e. when the local mountains have gotten two or more inches of rain. Same is true for the roads in Angeles, Los Padres, etc. local mountain forest areas. From a USFS rep on a hiking list I frequent, they will be ticketing cars and I believe cyclists in those areas, and it's not a cheapy: $250.

My status as a lazy aimless slacker remains unchanged. In other words I am still in
if this is still on.

RIDE CANCELED

Looks like GMR is not going to happen, folks. :(

As this time, I have made no plans or alternative routeslips and it doesn't look like I can get one done in time for Friday. I'll prolly still take the day off and ride, but I don't know if it'll be in the Santa Monicas, the PV-to-Mandeville loop or the Baldy-the-Hard-Way climb. Heck, I may just spin a slow one and ride with OCV on Saturday.

PM me if interested, but I am a bit aimless myself right now.

if you do something Saturday I'm game, I'm too swamped at work to miss another day off on Friday.
