Mountain Biking - 2004 Marzocchi Forks

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
The new 2004 Kona's are using new Marzocchi forks. The Kona Stuff in particular comes with a Marzocchi Bomber Drop-off. I have never heard of the BOMBER drop-offs.... are they any good.... thanx for the help

Practically the same with the Z1-Freeride, i own a Z-1 dropoff

it is based on the same design. The Dropoff is a good fork...thats on the stuff...wow that will be a smoking deal if they keep the pricepoint around 1000$ cdn

The bad news is that the 2004 dropoff is going to be made in Taiwan rather than italy. I feel lucky i got the 2003 one :D:D:D:D:D

eh...depending on how it works it could be fine. It is manufactured in Taiwan but the design and spec are still marz. It should still be a decent fork.
Ok... the price for the 2004 Stuff is less than last year! $1149 cdn They also put better tires on the 2004 and a better seat. I'm trying to figure out where they cut corners to bring the price down a bit.

Progression. Check out every year. The 2002's were a lot less bike for the same cost. The 2003's rocked and are cheaper (850 cdn for the stuff with all the crap it has on it...makes me want another ht)...quality goes up and prices come down constantly. :)
and also... the website says that they'll be available Aug. 2003 but so far all the bike stores I've phoned know nothing.
To be honest, I would love to find out that the DropOff is indeed a Z1 based design. However, I'm doubtful at the very best. For a bike to go from having an EXR to a Z1 with little change in price is a pretty tough pill to swallow. Then the next bike up has a DJ3 for a higher price. Sure, the brakes are the next step up on the Roast, but the difference in price between the brakes is surprisingly low at this point. My inclination is to think that, since the EXR was used on so very man DJ bikes, Marzocchi paid someone else to make them another fork. It wouldn't be the first time I was wrong, but it just sounds too good to be true.
Thanks a lot Maelstrom... I'll keep my fingers crossed for those Bomber Drop-offs to be quality Marzocchi.

Nah as DIL said these are probably licence built zokkies... the real thing is made in italy and its more high ended. Also the dropoffs resemble the Z1s but in true i doubt they are Z1s. Z1dropoff though 2003 model is a genuine Z1 series...but for 2004 zokkie has us a bit mixed up. Anyone knows of any new specialized models?
The only ones I've heard much about are the BigHit and a new long-travel Epic.
Those black stanchions on the DropOff are pretty sexy. :irritated

They are indeed. However there is a difference this year, Z1 is made in italy still, while dropoffs are made in taiwan,
I wonder if the drop-off will come with ONLY black stanchions, or if it can be changed to the gold ones (ya i know there not REAL gold)

Only black as far as i know, Its black anno allu for Z1 series , and steel for DJ series (black nitride coat or chromed option). I really love that goldy finish on allu stanchions....one of the many reasons i got the 2003 Z1.

I just purchased/installed a new '03 z1 fr. I've barely been able to ride much being that i just moved back and getting settled into a house. Seriously though that thing is great, and i've barely even broken it in.
Btw, does anyone know of knockoff marz' or any fork for that matter? Like they do with sunglasses and clothes and oh yah... everything practically.
edit: the z1 looks, and is, badassed.

Ok...im buying a Hardrock, and I wanna replace the Cappas with this years EXRs....how much are they?
HR Freerider, dont buy an EXR! Get the MX Comp or a Rock Shox Psylo XC. The EXR's are crap.
EXR's aren't that bad for the price.
