What are your favourite reggae songs?

I'll go with 'Johnny Was' by Bob Marley and the Wailers, 'A Message to you Rudy' and 'Ghosttown' by the Specials (yeah I know, technically 'ska"), 'What'cha Gonna Do?' by Peter Tosh.

If anyone mentions anything by UB40 or the Police I'll farkin' spew.:p

Black Uhuru - Guess Who's Coming to Dinner & What is Life?

Bob Marley - Buffalo Soldier, Easy Skanking, Kaya, Iron Lion Zion to name a few

Peter Tosh - Till Your Well Runs Dry

Some Steel Pulse tunes too, but I can't remember song names.

I actually like the Signing Off album from UB40, and the songs Buzz Feeling & Mi Spliff are kind of fun.

Legalize it.

I totally busted my dad back in the 80's, when I caught him with Peter Tosh and Bob Marley tapes in his car.

Just about anything from the early period of the Greensleeves label and 80s dancehall.

I've had Viet Nam stuck in my head all week after hearing it on Sirius Reggae!

Toots is the sh*t! Jacob Miller. Too many good songs.

Just about anything from the early period of the Greensleeves label and 80s dancehall.

Some of my very favorite reggae stuff came out on Greensleeves - Yellowman, Eek-A-Mouse, Barrington Levy, etc. Almost all of it was produced by the late Henry "Junjo" Lawes and featured the amazing Roots Radics backing band.

Yellowman - 'Lost Mi Love'
Eek-A-Mouse - 'Ganja Smuggling'
Barrington Levy - 'Murderer' and 'Under Mi Sensi'

Also love roots reggae from Horace Andy, Black Uhuru, Abbyssinians, etc.

Great thread

There a great reggae album called "Dub Side of the Moon" by the Easy Star All Stars, which is Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of..." inna reggae style. It is brilliant.

Oh wow. Yeah the late 60s stuff that was direct feedback between island and new orleans... the conscious stuff of the wailers before Bunny's fear of flying splintered them...

Yellowman!!!

Something about the Floyd inspired reinterpretation...
