Yesterday after receiving the third jersey order, I headed up to SF for my dentist appt.
I caught an express Caltrain, direct from San Bruno to SF, and got there early. I thought,
great, I'll take my time and ride leisurely up to 450 Sutter with getting sweaty.
I was just rolling along, enjoying the city, and going over a few rough spots when I was
surprised by my chain coming off. I stopped and tried getting the chain back on but
discovered the derailer's spring had broken. Luckily I was early for the appointment so I
walked over to Pacific Bicycles on 4th to have the bike temporarily turned into a single speed.
I must say I've never had a bike breakdown other than a flat before. I guess a 25-year-old
derailer would be about due. I still got to the appointment on time so that was good.

After the appointment, I met up with pohlf at his office to deliver his jersey. It was nice
to see the C/Net offices and chat with Frank and his co-worker. Good to see some
companies from the Internet boom still doing well. Frank, hope to see you on the road
sometime soon. I then headed over to Valencia Cyclery to return an unused part and
pickup some folding grocery baskets for my Schwinn. It's always nice to visit Valencia...
they're always so friendly and helpful, no matter who is working that day. They almost
had me sold on a HUGE front "paperboy" basket but I'll give the folding baskets a try first.
I headed back to Caltrain and was coming within two minutes of the 5:37pm express
to San Bruno. As I approached the station, I saw a train pulling out and thought Huh?
Turns out my memory failed me and the 5:37 was actually the 5:33! Doh. Not only that
the 5:33 was express to Millbrae. Oh well. I upgraded my ticket to zone 2 and took the
5:56 limited to Millbrae. On the way back to the office I stopped by the local convenience
store to buy some bungie cords to portage the big box of jerseys from my office back home.
They didn't have bungie cords so I had to come up with Plan B.

I must say having a rack on the bike is pretty handy. I can't wait to have the folding
racks installed and maybe even a HUGE front basket in the future. All in all, it was a
fun way to have a dentist appointment.
