Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hi Everyone. Im new to this website and new to mountain biking in general. Anyway i recently purchased a mongoose xr-100 and i recently fell on the gear side. Ever since then the gears dont work properly. The gears dont lock in right, like when i shift 1-7 cant seem to lock in to 6th gear and sometimes the chain gets loose and falls off the gear. I tried adjusting the tension cables but i cant seem to get the gears to work properly. Can You guys please help. Thanks.

If the bike shifted ok until you fell on the driveside, you may have bent the derailleur hanger. I don't know if your bike has a replaceable derailleur hanger, but your LBS might be able to bend the current one back or replace it with a new one depending on how badly it is bent. It might simply be a derailleur adjustment issue - in that case you could read the Barentte's manuals posted in this forum, pick up a repair book like Zinn and the Art of Mountain Bike Maintenance, or bring the bike to the LBS. If you don't have any luck trying to fix the problem, the LBS is the best bet because they may have to play with the der. hanger.
