Mainly just a fireroad. 5 mile loop, good climbing. Some steep parts but basically feel like GMR but in the dirt. Nothing technical. There are trails that go down to San Dimas but never gone that way. Nice ride up to Potato Mtn overlooking Baldy Rd down to Corona. Usually riding for a workout so I stay on the loop. When I get in shape, I'll do 3 loops a couple days during the workweek. There are some riders that do 3 loops on fixies. These guys fly by like you're standing still.
This is riding clockwise. 2.5 mile climb. One loop takes me about 40 minutes. Some steep sections @ 3 or 4 mph. Road overlooks San Antonio Dam (Base of Baldy Rd). You can see the satellite dish (whatever that thingy is) from the 210 and Baseline exit as you drive by. Many mention Carbon Canyon. Just surprised nobody brings up CHWP besides me!:D

A bud took me up Potato Mtn once. Only 5 miles or so but took an hour to get there. Nice ride. There is also a trail that heads down to San Dimas Cyn area but never been down there. Heard there is some single track (whatever that is). Be nice to get a ride up, down to SD, then back up and around, up to Potato Mtn, then down. I'd have to find out about the other side first(SD).

I wanted to get pics of the other side but it started raining on me while on the second loop. That is where I flipped and broke my helmet form back to front. I was doing 24 at the time but have hit 36 on that section. So if you ride there, MAKE SURE you wear a helmet!

I used to run around these hills as a teenager, and would ride there on my
Schwinn Vasity 10 speed.
For those who have never heard of the "varsity' think 50 lbs of solid steel and skinny tires.

Beanz,
I ride up there on my single speed. Usually I will ride up from my house in San Dimas, but the trail actually starts in La Verne. It is the Marshall Canyon trail and it is very nice single track. There are some steep parts but only one part where I have to push the single speed because it is a really loose section after a hairpin. My Wed. ride the last couple of weeks has been to leave my house, go up the Marshall Canyon trail, cut across the top of CHWP, take the turn off and climb up to Potato mountain and then go home the reverse way. It is a really fun but hard ride. Tuesday, I took my friend over there and we went up through Marshall Canyon and then did a loop around CHWP. He was on his new cyclocross bike. He hasn't ridden 'cross since he moved here from Utah six years ago. He was pleasantly surprised that we have some cool trails nearby.

Yeah it is cool. I'll have to ride up from the La Verne side to check it out. Been a while since I've been riding on the trail, but maybe 2 or 3 years ago there was a group of 4 guys that did loops around on the trail. 3 guys always chasing some FAST dude on a single speed. A few days ago I saw a family of deer on the lower trail. When we rode up to Potato mtn, we saw a huge buck. I am surprised at some of the things that can been seen there. Also a few warnings on the bulletin board of mtn lion sightings towards Potato Mtn (couple of years ago). Don't think I'd go up there alone!:D
