Southern California - So Cal needs a long thread "What's Up?" type thread!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Okay, so since I'm home not feeling worth crap, I'm watching the news and there has been a multiple car pile up on PCH. A semi went down Kanun Dune too fast due to road closures, couldn't get his brakes to work and went through the intersection. So sad. :(
Stay off PCH for a few days, people.

I've noticed that too, Scoot. Last night on the way home, not one but TWO different drivers pulled up on the right shoulder to try and cut into traffic - and both times it was ME they tried to cut in on! I didn't let them. I drive a Nissan and we were going slowly enough that they would have just damaged the car if they slammed into me. But I refused to let them in out of principle. What is wrong with people!
Then today on the way to get my chest x-ray, people were nuts. Anger is definitely up!

It seems worse after the "NEW" server upgrade!
At the risk of "outing" myself as a geek, I doubt the server upgrade had much impact. I looked at the error generated by the "Database Error" page and the database was complaining about the number of connections. Additional CPU isn't going to help that...although maybe more memory would now that I think about it.
It may be helpful the next time someone gets the error to choose View|source from the top IE or FF menu and copy the error message all the way down at the bottom and send it to a forum administrator. Since the errors are intermittent it may be possible that the forum administrators don't know about them. They *probably* do but you never know...

Okay, this is trivial compared to the other losses... but more bad news from the fires for this avocado junkie:
SAN DIEGO - If guacamole prices are higher when the Super Bowl rolls around in February, blame the fires in Southern California. More than 20,000 acres of avocado trees in northern San Diego County have been lost, at least a third of the state's crop, with another 15,000 acres threatened by flames, emergency officials said.
Yup... Highland Valley area got hit hard. Poor avocados.

Generally.
Produce from personal gardens? Not allowed.
Produce from grocery stores? Usually allowed because the produce is treated and tested for pests/diseases.

What's up with these prices... An R3 for $2400? A S-Works Tarmac SL for $2600? Seems too good to be true. What's the catch?

I smell a rat.
For some reason, the web page is trying to extract the contents of the clipboard, why would that be?
The only payment method is bank wire transfer?
I really haven't looked into this carefully though, if one was inclined, I would suggest caution.

Just got my work review. All the $ are good, except one statement that I (very, very strongly) don't feel is valid. That's the only 1 point that makes me feel very unhappy right now; even though it won't change anything else. It doesn't seem like it will get cleared, so I guess I should just be happy and suck it up. :(

Dave, does your company allow you to write a rebuttal? Some companies do, and that will go in your personnel file along with the review. Of course, it's best to share the rebuttal with your supervisor first so that he/she doesn't feel as if you are being sour grapes.

Yeah. But my new boss doesn't agree with me though. The cases that he's brought up so far are invalid (even worse I was one that made things right at those time). He's going back to find other cases, but I honestly don't think it'll change anything. It does have a section where I can write in my own comments, and that's what I've done. I think that'll be end-of-story.
I just feel unhappy about an untrue statement being on my record, even though it won't even change any ranking/$ that I get. On the bright side, the $ is good and perhaps I'll just go get a beer tonight. :p

Well, this is where a "rebuttal" may help. All a rebuttal does is indicate in your personnel file that you don't agree and why. It's a stronger statement than just comments on the review. That a way, if/when your supervisor leaves, a new supervisor, who may ask to see your reviews, will also see that you emphatically didn't agree. He/she can then ask you about it and it can be discussed. Without the rebuttal, he/she may keep what your prior supervisor said in mind. Employees forget that the review process isn't just about their performance, but also about how they feel they are being given guidance by their supervisors. It is supposed to be collaborative, although I realize that in a perfect world, that isn't always the case.

I ordered an air purifier online. Hopefully I'll get it soon and then I can ride on my trainer. :)
BTW, my apartment has finally been cleaned up! Yeah! A friend of mine was in the evacuation zone, and so he stayed at my place with his family. My highly efficient chaotic filing system (stuff lying on the floor) didn't work so well when we tried to setup his temp beds. At the end, we ended up cleaning up my place together. Honestly it was quite embarrassing, but my apt is finally clean. :D :p

I used this approach when I was single and it paid dividends. You only get one chance with a girl at your place so it better be ready. Anything else and she will never return or anything ….
Ride Tip #2: ALWAYS have your place picked up and the bathroom must be spotless.
