Southern California - So Cal needs a long thread "What's Up?" type thread!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

You should buy some lights at the swap meet, then ride into the night.

I have lights. But I'm one of those geezers with crappy night vision who just barely manages to see cyclists at night when I'm driving, so my perspective on the risks of night riding may be different than other peoples'. As for off-road night riding, there are no cars to contend with, but I always worry about nocturnal giant anteaters. They can be very mean.

Cool and foggy this morning... perfect for a ride. I would have done some serious posing at the coffee shop but I forgot my wallet (Sorry, George!) Then I tested out the legs on some small hills and they seem to be ok after my double metric on Friday. Looking forward to Solvang next week!!!

They're not so bad, Dan. I used to wrestle them when I was in college.

The kids are at the grandparents so I was able to get Sonia back on the bike for a short ride to Starbucks and back. Hmmm, now that she's done a short ride she wants to ride again! :D

Good times!

That's great John! Now, did she really enjoy the riding part or was it the few quiet moments posing at Starbucks? :D

I got up extra early this morning and rode into work in heavy fog......and yes, I did spend 45 minutes at Starbucks on the way...:p

Work. I was going to commute to my desk this morning, but seeing as I decided to work from my desk at home, the walk to Vivian from the couch was twice as far as the walk to my desk.

It was both! The ride to Starbucks was somewhat uphill most of the way, so the return ride was faster and easier which I think helped out, too. But sitting outside Starbucks and posing without having to rush back was probably the best part!

I had fun doing repeats on the new Twin Oaks/San Elijo Hill, think it's about 12-15% for 2 miles on the front side. The Down the other side for a 7% climb back up for about 3 miles. Good leg buster, now I can seat and watch some football:D BURRR it was bit cold this morning:(

I just did 45 miles from Sherman Oaks to Griffith Park and around, Dodgers Stadium and back. I forget how much of panacea riding is. I feel so much better having ridden and it was so nice out there.

However, Fern Dell is NOT open. I couldn't get up to the observatory. I could have hopped the fence, but I do not want a $200 ticket.

It was open yesterday! I rode up Ferndell Park at around 4pm, gate was wide open with traffic going both directions all the way to the top, and rode down the Vermont side. :D

Okay, then...it's YOUR fault. They don't want you posing up there, so they locked the gate today!:p

Did 21 miles yesterday afternoon on the road bike, then did another 31 this morning on the fixed gear bike (same trail, SART San Bernardino/Riverside portion, just went further the second time). Feels good to be out riding again. :D

Seriously ... does anyone know of someone who needs a network engineer or a network security engineer? This may be my reason to move back to So Cal. I just don't care about work anymore, and that's bad ...

The one I work in is wireless. We have ntwk eng's, but they're mainly also wireless guys. I doubt you'll want to be a data/backhaul ntwk guy in a wireless company, since you'll be more like an "overhead".

But if you still want to try... pm'ed.

no I want to do an endurance swim, something over 10 miles.

I set this goal and I think I can do it. I actually enjoy swimming, its very relaxing and cleansing mentally.

Really?

Yeah I've been swimming 3-4 days a week, I might step it up too. It's really thrilling and challenging. I thought I could do "distance" but wow, after about 500m everything hurts and my heart rate is MAX. I can barely sprint 50m...

I love the challenge. I love the water. It's a thrill. Cycling will still be my first love :)

Well, good for you, Ovo, but don't go swimming in the ocean in the dark (dusk or dawn). You'll be eaten by a shark.

if i get eaten by a shark, then it would mean that it was my time. Sharks dont attack humans, so if I was to be attacked its only fate...There are people out there that die much worse fates.

I'm not afraid of dying. I'm only afraid of being paralyzed or crippled.

But what if a shark bites your leg off, which is more likely what would happen. Those animals mostly bite humans and spit them back out. No fun, Ovo. So be careful out there. :D

Um...this blonde caucasian woman in a wetsuit will look like a very large seal or sea lion to a shark for sure. That or a rump roast.

So...no, not swimming.
