Southern California - So Cal needs a long thread "What's Up?" type thread!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Just advertise them as stripped off new bike, in brand new condition.

175 cranks! Daddy Long Legs.

(BTW, I just wanted to be the 2000th post in this thread)

:p That's the secret for my blistering climbing speed.

I can't imagine you'll find that setup anywhere, much less on a frame size that will fit you. But if you do, we can make a deal.

Question...

If I bought a new, complete bike and stripped off the Shimano components, could I sell the groupset as NEW? Even if they had never been ridden (except for a possible test ride), would they be considered USED?

Not quite. The correct term is "takeoffs" e.g. new parts stripped from a new bike. Takeoff parts are sold without boxes or instructions and may have some evidence of grease, toolmarks (depending on care taken in assembly/disassembly, etc).

As such you are normally not going to quite get the "new new" price upon resale. How big or small the price difference is will vary depending on the randomness of eBay. If you're very lucky you might encounter one of those doofuses out there who buy things on eBay for more than they could get them at regular retail. :D

But what would be a good pricing strategy on eBay or Craisgslist?
10% below the going rate for brand new boxed parts? 20%? 30%?

Sometimes you just have to win that auction!

The single best way to predict eBay prices is to research completed auctions for the same item. If you want to protect yourself, set a reserve as far below the average selling price as you can tolerate, as having the reserve set too close to the likely final price can discourage bidding.

I personally wouldn't bother with Craigslist for parts. You need a national market to find the people who just have to have that part now.

hahahaha. Too late. You've talked about it multiple times. No doubt you'll have another one by the end of the year. After all, you can't keep subjecting Sacha to those nasty beach paths!

I think you're a little too late because the smallest is a 50cm now. That's the same sizing as my 52cm C'dale. Unless you're talking about a different bike...

I rode up Latigo this morning. The hazy clouds turned out to be rain clouds so I was soaked by the time I reached the top and I was only wearing shorts & short sleeves. I originally intended to go along Mulholland to the end, but I wanted out of the rain so I bombed down Kanan at 35-40. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr......

I got home and ordered some arm warmers and new leg warmers that hopefully won't slip down in the first 4 minutes of a ride like my current ones do.

For those of you that subscribe to the Peter Lynch school of investing, I will report that I just returned from Kohl's and it was packed. I have never been in a Kohl's so I really don't have anything of which to compare. But I thought i would pass along the information. One other data point, they were having some sort of sale but, again, I don't know how today compares to other days when they did not have a sale.

Hi Ron

I was at Duke's for brunch today thinking about the last day we did Latigo. I ended up coming down that day at Rambla Pacifica, right at Dukes. Ahhh good times.

Oh Reggie Miller was at Duke's too.

It's cold!

Don't feel too bad today. Yesterday did a 42 miler, first long ride in several weeks plus new FSA bars and fit on the OCR. It was a pretty fast shop ride, averaging out around 17 with climbs into Hidden Valley and various areas.

I was a bit tight and sore afterwards and wondered if I needed to adjust saddle and reach however since I'm okay today maybe I'll leave this alone until I get a few more miles on. Managed to do a 1/2 mile swim today at the gym but felt it enough that I'm glad I didn't push out to the usual mile.

I looked for you today...did my house to Mt. Murder via Jesmond Dene and back. I waved to your house on the off chance you were standing on the street with some binoculars.

We were on the road at about 7:10am and back at 9am. Back in time to get ready and make it to 10am mass.

Have you done the new part of Twin Oaks Rd that drops into San Elijo? 2.2 miles at 8-10% on the San Marcos side and 3.1mile at 6.5-7% up the San Elijo Side. Bomb back down SM side at blistering 58mph on the new pavement:D

I just spent the weekend in Anza-Borrego. I imagined riding my mountain bike there as I hiked, since it isn't bike legal. Some neat rock formations and fossils there where we were.

Wow! Sounds fun. Too bad I don't have good survival skills. Of the few wild camping/portage outings that I've done, there were always some camping experts around so that I don't kill myself/get left stranded.

BTW, did you join the Sierra club?

Nope, not a member of the Sierra Club. However, I have some "associates" that are members. If you want to improve your skills, take this class:

I did it this year. It was fun.

On Friday as Sonia's driving home she gets pulled over by the LAPD for not having a front license plate. She tells the cop that the week before she was in an accident (a-hole pulled in front of her while trying to cross the intersection) and the plate was ripped off. He says "I believe you".

"I have it right here, I also have the body shop estimate right here since the mounts were ripped out and they have to replace the bumper."

"Good, then it will be easy for you to resolve this ticket."

She was sooooo pissed off, what a jacka**.

Women specific? If so, you're gonna have to settle for Black or Red for the non-carbon Sidi's, or white for the carbon.

Oh, and what size are you in European sizes?

I'm US-7.5/Sidi-41. PBK's chart is quite accurate; that means you're a 43 if men/women sizing are the same.

Black/silver: http://www.probikekit.com/display.php?code=f1081

PBK used to have the best price when I was shoe shopping a year ago. Not sure if they still are.
